The Human Immune Monitoring Center (HIMC) in Palo Alto seeks a highly motivated Life Science Research Professional 2 to join our Genomics group and contribute to multidisciplinary projects in genomics and single-cell multi-omics.

As part of the Genomics team, you will design, optimize, and execute experiments, analyze results, and help interpret findings for publication and translational studies. The role involves collaboration across faculties and overseeing lab operations as needed.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology and genomics assays (nucleic acid extraction, PCR, RNAseq).
  • Experience with quantitative data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct portions of research projects and advise on design.
  • Perform complex lab experiments to generate data for major projects.
  • Interpret results and modify procedures as needed.
  • Develop new protocols when standard methods are lacking.

Job description

The Human Immune Monitoring Center (HIMC) isseeking a highly motivatedLife Science Research Professional 2tojoin our Genomics group to perform multidisciplinary projects related to genomics and single-cell multi-omics.

The mission of our service center is to provide standardized, state-of-the-art immune monitoring assays at the RNA, protein, and cellular level, as well as archiving, reporting, and data mining support for clinical and translational studies. In partnership with the research community, we also work to test and develop new technologies for immune monitoring. The HIMC offers advanced genomics services, including gene expression assays (RNAseq, qPCR arrays, etc.), TCR/BCR repertoire analysis, HLA typing, and single cell RNAseq+AbSeq on multiple platforms.

We are seeking a creative, motivated, organized individual to apply and optimize genomics technologies. The LSRP2 will collaborate with the other team members to develop protocols, perform experiments, and evaluate and interpret results.

Duties include:
  • Independently conduct a portion of the research project(s). Make recommendations on experimental design and/or research direction to principal investigator.
  • Independently conduct complex (lab and/or field) experiments to gather data for a portion of a major research project.
  • Interpret and analyze results, often where few guidelines exist, and make modifications to existing procedures and protocols.
  • Develop new research protocols where appropriate protocols are not described in the literature or where modification or adaptation of standard procedures and protocols is required.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams across different faculties or schools.
  • Perform ongoing literature review to remain current with new procedures and related research; apply to ongoing research and development of new protocols.
  • Contribute substantively to the preparation of papers for publication, especially in the results section, and to publication of findings. Present ongoing work to colleagues and/or academic conferences.
  • Oversee supply and equipment budget under supervision of principal investigator or business manager.
  • Work with health and safety department to ensure lab complies with regulations and all required trainings.
  • Supervise (either formally or informally) staff or students as needed, including oversight and direction on techniques, as well as consultation on project work. Serve as a technical resource for other research staff.
  • Oversee the daily activities of the laboratory including lab maintenance; maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed. May assist with purchasing laboratory equipment.
