Job description

CytoTerra, Inc. is a Seattle-based Diagnostic Technology start-up company that utilizes Genomic Proximity Mapping (GPM), a specialized next-generation sequencing method, to identify large-scale structural changes in the genome. This information is used by clinicians and scientists to diagnose disease and guide treatment decision making.GPM is delivered to customers as a single-site laboratory developed test (LDT) in a CLIA/CAP certified environment in our Seattle laboratory.

For this position, we are seeking a focused, detail-oriented Genomics Scientist to support clinical testing at the bench and translating results into clinically actionable findings that can be used to assist in patient care.In addition to executing consistently on clinical testing, this scientist will also participate in cutting-edge research and development on GPM and related applications. As an early-stage company, you will wear many hats, interfacing across teams at CytoTerra and be involved with communications of results with customers.

  • The ability to both work as a part of team and individually contribute to routine testing and research projects.
  • Staying abreast of the scientific literature and discussing important findings with the larger scientific team.
Experience and Skills
  • A PhD in genetics/genomics/molecular biology or closely related field or MS with 7+ years of experience in molecular genetic assays.
  • At least 7 years of laboratory bench experience and preferrable 2 years of post-degree work experience.
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing library preparation.
  • Ability to work with demanding timelines and to troubleshoot problems alone and as a part of team.
  • Flexibility to accept ownership of jobs in an environment where responsibilities can be ambiguous.
An outstanding candidate will have…
  • Extensive experience running a variety of NGS-based assays.
  • Experience working in a CLIA/CAP, GMP, or GLP environment.
  • A background in cancer biology and genomics.
  • Experience with cell culture techniques.
  • Experience working with customers and collaborators to ideate and refine study design.
Physical and travel requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a lab bench carrying out fine molecular biology techniques and repetitive tasks.
