Job summary

The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is seeking an Associate Scientist I to join the Quality Control team in our high-throughput production lab. Responsibilities include nucleic acid extraction, initial sample QC, and Illumina Infinium genotyping in a fast-paced setting.

You will support library preparation and sequencing on Illumina and other platforms, perform automated extraction, and ensure timely, accurate data entry in NYGC’s LIMS. Excellent multitasking and collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology or related field with lab experience in nucleic acid research.
• At least 1 year of molecular biology lab experience.
• Experience with automated liquid handlers preferred.
• Experience in next-generation sequencing a plus.
• Solid knowledge of molecular biology equipment and related protocols (RNA/DNA prep, quantification, PCR, bead-based solutions) preferred.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Carry out DNA & RNA procedures for sequencing platforms, including extraction, quantification, and preparation.
• Assist with library preparation and sequencer operation for Illumina NovaSeq X and other platforms.
• Perform QC of initial samples and sequencing-ready libraries.
• Operate automated liquid handlers and maintain automation equipment.
• Track work in LIMS and maintain instrument maintenance.
