Job summary

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Institute for GenomeSciences (IGS) invites applications for a Contractual Laboratory Research Assistant. This full-time temporary role supports Maryland Genomics with high-throughput sequencing, single-cell, and spatial multi-omics analyses, qPCR/dPCR, and bioinformatics workflows.

Responsibilities include sample handling, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, and meticulous record-keeping, with adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or field of study related to laboratory research.
• May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation.
• May consider a combination of directly related experience and education.

Responsibilities

• Follow laboratory’s established policies and procedures.
• Manage specimen receipt and accessioning.
• Assist in routine laboratory maintenance, including equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Contribute to lab cleanliness and a safe laboratory environment.
• Perform components of sample transfer, DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, and qPCR.
• Maintain records for equipment and reagent validation.
• Research and development activities for ongoing and future testing efforts.
• Maintain thorough documentation of laboratory activities, protocol deviations, equipment malfunctions, and corrective actions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
