Saint Alphonsus Health System in Boise, Idaho seeks an Oncology Genetic Counselor to provide high-level independent genetic counseling for adult patients in collaboration with physicians. You will assess risk, discuss genetics, and educate patients, families, and staff, typically seeing 16–20 patients per week.

SUMMARY:

In collaboration with physicians, provides high-level independent genetic counseling for adult patients. Clinically assess and counsel individuals and families regarding genetics and risk management. Provide s education to patients and families as well as to physicians and the community.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC) require d , or obtained within 12 months from hire date.

• American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) certification required within 12 months of hire.

• Minimum of one- year experience in Genetic Counseling preferred .

• State of Idaho provisional /regular license required , or obtained within 12 months of hire.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Demonstrate knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Adolescent, Adult, Geriatrics)

• Discuss es with the patient and the family the features, natural history, means of diagnosis, genetic and environmental factors, and management of risk for pre-disposition syndromes or genetic conditions.

• Identifies , coordinate s , and obtain s informed consent for genetic laboratory tests and other diagnostic studies as appropriate for genetic assessment.

• Integrate s the results of genetic laboratory tests and other diagnostic tests with individual and family medical histories.

• Explain s to a patient and the patient’s family the clinical implications of the results of genetic laboratory tests and other diagnostic tests.

• Provide s risk analysis and calculation.

• Discuss es informed consent, privacy issues, and confidentiality and discrimination concerns with patients.

• Provide s post-test counseling and support, including review of medical management options.

• Provide s accurate, appropriate and timely reports for patient records and to referring physicians.

• Identifies and use s community resources that provide medical, educational, financial, psychosocial support and advocacy.

• Provide s genetics education to other health care professionals.

• Attend s applicable meetings and conferences.
