Job summary

Saint Alphonsus Health System in Boise, Idaho seeks an Oncology Genetic Counselor to provide high-level genetic counseling for adult patients, collaborating with physicians, assessing risks, and educating patients and families.

Responsibilities include risk assessment, informed consent, family history evaluation, and education of patients and physicians. The role involves seeing 16–20 patients weekly and working with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from an ACGC-accredited program or obtained within 12 months of hire.
• ABGC certification required within 12 months of hire.
• Minimum one year of genetic counseling experience preferred.
• State of Idaho provisional/regular license required, or obtained within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Care for all assigned age groups (Adolescent, Adult, Geriatrics).
• Accurately document services and supplies for patients.
• Typically see 16–20 patients per week.
• Collaborate with programs and referring physicians to ensure appropriate care.
• Obtain and evaluate family histories for genetic evaluation.
• Explain features, history, testing options, genetics and risk management for predisposition syndromes.
• Identify and obtain informed consent for genetic laboratory tests and other studies.
• Integrate test results with personal and family medical histories.
• Explain clinical implications of test results to patients and families.
• Provide risk analysis and calculation.
• Discuss informed consent, privacy, confidentiality and discrimination concerns.
• Provide post-test counseling and discuss management options.
• Provide accurate, timely reports for patient records and referrals.
• Identify and use community resources for medical, educational, financial, psychosocial support.
• Provide genetics education to other healthcare professionals.
• Attend relevant meetings and conferences.

SUMMARY:

In collaboration with physicians, provides high-level independent genetic counseling for adult patients. Clinically assess and counsel individuals and families regarding genetics and risk management. Provide s education to patients and families as well as to physicians and the community.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC) require d , or obtained within 12 months from hire date.

• American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) certification required within 12 months of hire.

• Minimum of one- year experience in Genetic Counseling preferred .

• State of Idaho provisional /regular license required , or obtained within 12 months of hire.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Ensure the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to the patients.
