Job summary

Mclaurin seeks a Genesis Analysis / Software Engineer to join the JETS II contract team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. You will develop and script Genesis tools, analyze spacecraft trajectories, and integrate with Core Flight Systems to evaluate mission performance.

Ideal candidates have a engineering degree with 2–5 years experience, strong C++, Python, Linux skills, and collaboration abilities. NASA context and security clearance awareness are given.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 2–5 years of related experience.
• Experience with orbital mechanics and spacecraft trajectories.
• Experience developing, verifying, and validating simulation models.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide software development and scripting for Genesis Flight Mechanics.
• Design and execute analyses to compare guidance algorithms.
• Demonstrate Core Flight Systems (cFS) usage in Genesis.
• Develop, integrate, and test new mission/vehicle performance algorithms.
• Integrate Genesis with Core Flight Systems and other trajectory tools.
• Develop requirements documentation for mission design products.
• Provide recommendations to improve design and development processes.
• Perform other duties as required.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Genesis Analysis / Software Engineer to join our JETS II contract team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.

If selected you will:

• Provide software development and scripting of NASA's Genesis Flight Mechanics Simulation tool and related applications.
• Design and execute analyses to compare the performance of different guidance algorithms.
• Demonstrate the use of Core Flight Systems (cFS) in Genesis
• Develop, integrate, and test new algorithms for evaluation of vehicle and mission performance.
• Integrate Genesis with Core Flight Systems and other trajectory software and tools.
• Develop requirements documentation for mission design products.
• Provide recommendations for improvements in design and software development processes.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:

• Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2- 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
• Experience with orbital mechanics and designing spacecraft trajectories.
• Experience with the development of spacecraft mission design algorithms.
• Experience analyzing spacecraft performance.
• Experience with 6-DOF spacecraft simulations.
• Proficiency in C++, Python, and Linux
• Experience in product delivery utilizing source code management tools such as Git/GitLab
• Experience developing, verifying, and validating simulation models.
• Excellent communication skills
• Able to work in a team environment consisting of NASA civil servants and contractor employees.
• Strong interpersonal skills to enable successful performance in a collaborative engineering team.
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision.
• Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings.
• Experience with Microsoft Office products.

Preferred Qualifications:

• PhD in Aerospace Engineering with a focus on trajectory design, optimization, and orbital mechanics.
• Proficiency in Julia.
