Generator Specialist Inc. is seeking a Power Generation Field Service Technician to diagnose and repair generators at customer sites in Ohio. You will train service personnel, ensure high-quality repairs, and maintain strong customer relations while adhering to safety and documentation standards.

The role involves preventative maintenance, hands-on diagnostics, and potential coaching of junior technicians. Full or part time with competitive benefits and a performance-based bonus.

Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED or relevant experience to the position.
Apprentice Certified Power Generation/Electrical Technician (Preferred).
Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution.
Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and execute complex repairs on generators and components at the customer’s site.
Establish productive customer relations and ensure prompt attention to customer needs.
Perform preventative maintenance per documented schedules on field power generation products.
Escalate unresolved issues to Service Manager.
Coach and develop technicians and/or apprentices; may review repair plans.
Complete service worksheets, timesheets, warranty claims and quality documents.

Job Description

Power Generation Field Service Technician

Technical specialist and primary customer support contact to diagnose and execute complex repairs on generators and components at the customer’s site

Establishes and continually develops productive customer relations and ensures prompt and efficient attention to customer needs

Applies the use of specialized tools and follows documented procedures and policies to diagnose and complete complex repairs at customer site

Performs preventative maintenance activities as per documented schedules and standards on power generation products in the field

Escalates unresolved issues to the Service Manager

Coaches and develops technicians and/or apprentices and transfers knowledge and experience to others; may provide work direction; may review repair plans and parts lists

Completes required documentation, such as service worksheets, timesheets, warranty claims, quality documents via handwritten forms or business system input screens

Completes training in line with skill and business requirements

Maintains service vehicle and tools for cleanliness and proper operation

Ensure adherence to all relevant Health Safety & Environmental policies, procedures and legislation and reports any issues / incidents to site management and to their supervisor

Qualifications & Skills

Ability to train Service Personnel to develop their diagnostic skills

Able to identify opportunities for work process improvements and recommend appropriate action

Able to develop and maintain productive working relationships

Ability to prepare reports providing feedback on service interventions

Ability to identify and resolve engine system failures relating to and impacted by component failure

Ability to guide / coach other service technicians (including customer and/or dealer technicians) through complex service interventions and diagnostic issues

Can resolve complex technical problems

Ability to identify and up-sell further service and repair opportunities

Education, Licenses, Certifications

High School Diploma/GED or relevant experience to the position

Apprentice Certified Power Generation/ Electrical Technician (Preferred)

Experience

Significant field service work experience

Desired level of experience - 3 years preferred

Expert level knowledge of and/or experience with power generation products

High Voltage / Low Voltage experience

Customer service experience

Experience providing technical advice and coaching to more junior technicians (preferred)

Candidate must have power gen experience both commercial and residential, must be able to use computer programs for diagnosis and be efficient in Microsoft programs. Must have an outgoing personality and be able to sell themselves and our services.
