Job summary

Generator Specialist Inc is seeking a Power Generation Field Service Technician to diagnose and repair generators at customer sites, perform preventative maintenance, and maintain strong customer relations.

The role includes coaching junior technicians, completing accurate service documentation, and ensuring compliance with safety policies. A High School diploma and relevant power generation training are preferred; valid driver’s license required.

Qualifications

  • Field service experience in power generation preferred.
  • Ability to train Service Personnel to develop diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for work process improvements and recommend action.
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships.
  • Ability to prepare reports providing feedback on service interventions.
  • Ability to identify and resolve engine system failures relating to component failure.
  • Ability to guide/coach other service technicians through complex interventions.
  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic capabilities.
  • Experience communicating with customers and dealers.
  • Proficiency with computer programs for diagnostics and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Health, Safety & Environmental policies and report issues.

Power Generation Field Service Technician

Description

Technical specialist and primary customer support contact to diagnose and execute complex repairs on generators and components at the customer’s site

Establishes and continually develops productive customer relations and ensures prompt and efficient attention to customer needs

Applies the use of specialized tools and follows documented procedures and policies to diagnose and complete complex repairs at customer site

Performs preventative maintenance activities as per documented schedules and standards on power generation products in the field

Escalates unresolved issues to the Service Manager

Coaches and develops technicians and/or apprentices and transfers knowledge and experience to others; may provide work direction; may review repair plans and parts lists

Completes required documentation, such as service worksheets, timesheets, warranty claims, quality documents via handwritten forms or business system input screens

Completes training in line with skill and business requirements

Maintains service vehicle and tools for cleanliness and proper operation

Ensure adherence to all relevant Health Safety & Environmental policies, procedures and legislation and reports any issues / incidents to site management and to their supervisor

Ability to guide / coach other service technicians (including customer and/or dealer technicians) through complex service interventions and diagnostic issues

Can resolve complex technical problems

Ability to identify and up-sell further service and repair opportunities

Education, Licenses, Certifications

High School Diploma/GED or relevant experience to the position

Apprentice Certified Power Generation/ Electrical Technician (Preferred)

Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution

Valid driver’s license

Experience

Significant field service work experience

Desired level of experience - 3 years preferred

Expert level knowledge of and/or experience with power generation products

High Voltage / Low Voltage experience

Customer service experience

Experience providing technical advice and coaching to more junior technicians (preferred)

Candidate must have power gen experience both commercial and residential, must be able to use computer programs for diagnosis and be efficient in Microsoft programs. Must have an outgoing personality and be able to sell themselves and our services.
