Job description

Overview

National Power is accepting applications to fill a Generator Service Technician opening in our Chatsworth, GA market. Under the general direction of and reporting to the CISV Service Manager, the Generator Service Technician is responsible for maintenance and repair of generator sets and other electrical equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance and repair on generators and parallel systems ranging from 5–5000 kW. Troubleshooting and repair of Automatic Transfer Switches, including bypass isolation and closed transition types. Perform preventative maintenance service (oil and filters), troubleshoot AC and DC circuits, remove and replace components as necessary, perform warranty work per manufacturer’s guidelines, and perform start-up/commissioning on new generators and generator systems.
  • Perform diesel or gaseous engine troubleshooting and repair, including ignition components, injection systems, valve adjustments, etc.
  • Perform load bank testing on generator(s) to ensure units are in proper operating condition and meet applicable code requirements.
  • Assist other technicians with large multi-person jobs or troubleshooting complicated issues.
Education and Experience
  • HS Diploma required; Associate degree in an electrical/mechanical related field preferred.
  • Current Generac Power Systems certification preferred.
  • US Air Force Electrical Power Production Specialist, US Navy Electrician’s Mate, or Generator and/or UPS field service technician preferred.
Skills and Other Qualifications
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to give verbal/written reports of job status, repair recommendations, and equipment/supplies needed.
  • Must be able to account for time spent on jobs and travel.
  • Must have an excellent driving record and a valid driver’s license. The job will require driving long distances to job sites, and overnight stays in hotels 1–3 nights per week may be required. Company covers hotel costs and provides a meal allowance per company guidelines.
  • Must have good computer skills and be comfortable with Microsoft software, including Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, and PDF handling.
  • The technician may work from home and should ensure proper vehicle maintenance, required parts inventory, and security of Company property (cell phone, laptop, tools, etc.).
  • Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; responds promptly to customer needs; solicits customer feedback to improve service; meets commitments.
  • Good problem-solving skills during emergency situations or situations with limited resources.
  • Training will be provided; may be required to attend training courses in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and other locations as needed.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; seeks ways to improve quality; applies feedback to improve performance; monitors own work for quality and safety.
Work Conditions
  • The technician may be required to work in various weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, high humidity, etc.).
  • Frequently work near moving mechanical parts.
Physical Demands
  • Lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 75 lbs.
  • Ascending or descending ladders, scaffolding, stairs, ramps; using feet/legs and/or hands/arms.
  • Repetitive grasping and manipulating tools and components.
  • Entering text or data into a computer or other device by keyboard.
  • Pushing/pulling may involve use of hands/arms and/or legs.
  • Moving about on hands and knees or crawling to access restricted spaces.
  • Operational use of controls on machinery or equipment (pedals, buttons, levers, cranks).
  • Clarity of vision for reading small print or using computers.
  • Sitting for extended periods may be required.
  • Occasional crawling or reaching restricted spaces as needed.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive pay depending on experience and certifications. Overtime is paid at 1.5x base; compensation reflects productivity and performance.
  • Three weeks of paid vacation after 90 days (first year pro-rated based on start date).
