Job summary

Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. seeks a Technical Field Advisor II, Generator Commissioning to support commissioning of gas and steam turbine generators.

You will work under the site commissioning lead to perform mechanical checks, testing, and startup activities across large-frame equipment. Ideal candidates have power generation experience, industrial electrical expertise, and willingness to travel up to 90% to domestic and international sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred; equivalent education/experience considered.
• Power generation experience required, preferably in industrial electrical, commissioning, startup, or related field.
• Knowledge of large-frame generators and related systems including transformers, ISO phase bus, GSU, seal oil, hydrogen cooling, generator mechanical, and excitation systems.
• Knowledge of medium- and high-voltage equipment, electrical safety, NFPA 70E, NEC, NETA, IEEE, NESC, generator protection relaying, calibration, electrical circuits, troubleshooting, instrumentation, and controls.
• Strong analytical and engineering problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, email and analytical tools.
• English language proficiency required; Spanish, Portuguese, or Japanese language skills helpful.
• Must be willing to travel up to 90% of the year to remote domestic and international work sites.
• Ability to meet physical job requirements including lifting up to 25–50 pounds, working at heights, in confined spaces, and in loud environments while following safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates core competencies: action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, ownership.
• Follow site safety requirements while executing daily commissioning tasks for generators and auxiliary systems.
• Support startup, operation, troubleshooting, inspection, installation, testing, and commissioning of large-frame gas and steam turbine generators and related equipment.
• Read and interpret machine process diagrams, electrical schematics, control logic, protection systems, and related documentation.
• Perform or support electrical testing (Hipot, Megger, DLRO, VLF, power factor) and support excitation, SFC, generator protection relays.
• Support mechanical flushing and commissioning of lube oil, seal oil, and hydrogen systems.
• Complete documentation, test certificates, drawings, reports, and training logs for turnover and leadership review.
• Provide operator training and communicate effectively while protecting confidential information and maintaining integrity.
