Job summary

Figma is seeking PhD interns to develop innovative AI solutions for design and creative products. The internship can take place in Winter 2027 or Summer 2027 in San Francisco or New York.

This role focuses on Generative AI research, model development, and implementing features that enhance Figma's product capabilities. You will collaborate with a closely-knit AI research team on challenging problems at the intersection of AI and creativity.

Qualifications

• PhD candidate in AI/ML/CV/NLP/HCI or related field.
• Publications in AI/ML areas (e.g., LLMs or agentic systems).
• Experience applying ML to academia or industry projects.
• Proficient in Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow).
• Ability to compare approaches and articulate trade-offs.

Responsibilities

• Drive fundamental and applied research in Generative AI with Figma product use cases in mind.
• Formulate and implement modeling approaches to improve existing AI models and enable new AI-powered features.
• Explore new ideas and experiment with current technology stacks.
• May publish research in leading AI/ML conferences depending on project.
