The U.S. Department of the Navy is seeking a Counselor/Generalist to provide counseling services and psycho-educational training to military families. This role requires the ability to assess clinical needs and offer support for those experiencing family dynamics, stress, and adjustment issues. Experience in handling complex family situations, along with a strong understanding of military life, is critical for this job.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct service in the form of counseling individuals, couples, families and groups on matters pertaining to family dynamics, parent-child interaction, couples communication, stress reduction and adjustment to military lifestyle. The Counselor/Generalist position also requires the ability to provide and facilitate psycho-educational training programs.
TIER 1 salary range - $59,021 - $62,828
TIER II salary range - $71,410 - $76,016
The candidate will need the ability to present sensitive, and at times controversial, information to groups of people in a clear, concise manner and the ability to modify programs to meet the ever-changing needs of the active duty military community.
Clinical counseling includes the psychosocial assessment of individuals, development of treatment plans, treatment delivery and appropriate referral for active-duty military members and their families. In addition to clinical counseling duties, the Navy Family Advocacy Program requires ability to provide case management services, which include the identification and reporting of allegations of child and spouse abuse. The ability to assess risk and prepare safety plans is required. The candidate must be able to complete psychosocial assessments and treatment plans, provide treatment or make appropriate referral. The position requires knowledge of intensive psychosocial services and a wide range of skills (casework, group work, individual and family therapy). Both clinical and Family Advocacy Cases may involve difficult and complex family problems, i.e., violence or mental health issues.Irregular working hours may be required to include early shift, late shift, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on occasion a 24-hour on call rotation. Performs other related duties as required.
