Fuyao Glass America Inc. in Decatur, IL is seeking a General Utility worker for full-time daytime and overnight shifts. The role involves inspecting and packing glass containers, operating forklifts, and supporting production, packaging, and shipping operations to ensure a quality, timely product is delivered to customers.

You will assist with container preparation, closing, rework, stacking, and basic maintenance tasks while maintaining safety and 5S standards in a fast-paced plant environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support packing line operations by preparing containers with the required materials, tools, and equipment necessary to safely and properly package glass products in accordance with customer requirements, work instructions, and quality standards.
  • Transport containers to and from production lines, closing areas, rework areas, staging areas, shipping areas, and storage locations using authorized material handling equipment.
  • Perform container closing activities in accordance with customer specifications, packaging requirements, work instructions, and established operating procedures.
  • Perform container rework activities, including removal of broken glass, elimination of rat holes, correction of side stagger conditions, and other rework tasks required to restore containers to acceptable quality standards.
  • Transfer glass between containers as required while maintaining product quality, identification, and traceability.
  • Operate forklifts and other authorized industrial vehicles to support production, packaging, inventory, and shipping operations.
  • Load and unload containers on launching devices, robot turntables, conveyors, and other production equipment as required.
  • Transport, stage, and position empty racks to support production requirements while minimizing operational downtime.
  • Assist production personnel with glass processing activities, including breakage removal, glass stacking, and other operational support tasks as assigned.
  • Cut, prepare, and package materials required for container preparation, closing, and shipping operations.
  • Cut and fabricate replacement components for damaged or improperly assembled containers in accordance with established standards.
  • Cut paper, cardboard, and other packaging materials as required to support packaging operations.
  • Operate automatic banding equipment and verify banding requirements are applied in accordance with approved packaging standards and banding charts.
  • Empty cullet and waste hoppers in accordance with safety, environmental, and housekeeping requirements.
  • Perform container audits and complete required production, inventory, inspection, and quality records accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Assemble steel racks and related packaging components as required.
  • Assist Maintenance personnel with routine repairs, emergency repairs, and assigned tasks that do not require specialized maintenance qualifications.
  • Identify, report, and assist with containment of nonconforming product, packaging issues, damaged racks, and process abnormalities in accordance with established procedures.
  • Inspect assigned equipment and promptly report equipment malfunctions, damage, and unsafe conditions to supervision.
  • Maintain product identification and traceability throughout assigned operations.
  • Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards in assigned work areas.

Position Summary:

The GU employee’s main tasks in closing are to inspect glass containers that are delivered to the closing area prior to closing. A basic visual inspection looking for stagger, breakage, bad cuts, etc. to ensure we deliver a quality product through the closing process ready to ship to our customers. This includes the use of manual, automatic tooling to prep, wrap, and band the glass in the containers. Trucking is also part of this process. At times there will be other tasks or special projects that may be required for the GU to assist in completing.
