Job description

Summary

Performs, processes, and supports Production Operations in various areas of the Plant such as Press Room, Roll Stand Tasks, Hugo Beck Operation, Folder/Gluer, Die Cutter, and/or Material Handling. The role demonstrates full commitment to excellence in OHSE and Quality, protecting and promoting the environment, health and safety of employees and the community, and ensures quality across all processes and products.

Responsibilities

• Receive product from Press, stack, and place on pallets.
• Understand basic operation of the Hugo Beck Bundling System, including set‑up, troubleshooting, webbing, trash knife, roll alignment, tightening or loosening bundles.
• Pull product from press, stack, and place through bundling machines, retrieve bundled product, and place on pallets; print pallet labels with Pecas; locate all information on job bag and set‑up sheet; ensure correct loading of product through the bundling machine and onto pallets for material handling.
• Ensure quality of jobs by reviewing for quality and accuracy, making sure jobs are complete and error‑free, and informing Operators of any problems.
• Ensure finished product appears of the highest quality, accurately printed and complete, free of errors; pull product samples according to company procedures and send to Quality Auditors; notify Operator immediately of problems and/or errors.
• Perform downtime tasks: webbing the press, assisting Operators when the press is down, blowing out the Hugo Beck, and cleaning the press area, mopping all areas, walls, tables, cans, tanks, and floors behind the press and units.
• Fill solvent cans, tank, and auto viscometers, fill varnish sump; help set‑up cylinders for the next job; help rollstand make blades or cut down rolls; assist in sorting as needed.
• Ensure correct set‑up and breakdown of doctor blades following established instructions and procedures; properly remove/dispose used doctor blades with safety procedures; clean backup blade; deliver blade assembly to the appropriate area in the Pre‑Make Department; set up new doctor blades according to policies and procedures ensuring all measurements are correct and the blade is in proper position.
• Execute Make‑Ready tasks: ensure all product is purged from stacker, tables, and Hugo Beck; assist in changing impression rollers or changing over the stacker; assist in putting tools in press, changing tab breaker section, tearing down, and putting the pump together; separate different sections of the press from tab breaker to cutter; change cylinders; pump out inks; fill solvent containers; remove and/or install print unit cassettes.
• Maintain and follow all company policies and procedures for OHSE, personal protection, hazardous materials/waste handling; consistently use appropriate personal protective equipment; follow established procedures for handling and disposing of hazardous materials/waste; maintain proper uniform; use company‑provided safety lifting equipment such as hoists, jacks, and vacuum manipulators.
• Regularly examine work areas to keep them safe and neat, ensuring proper grounding, cleaning of ink and solvent containers, and storing/arranging work areas to maintain cleanliness and safety; demonstrate the ability to maintain work area in a safe and proper working order.
• Rollstand tasks (if applicable): prepare and mount rolls, operate splicing unit, record roll information for Pecas and NCMs, set up cylinders for subsequent jobs, split cores with core cutter, maintain varnish viscosity with test cup and stopwatch, change varnish drums when empty, disconnect and reconnect ink sumps and auto viscometers, clean varnish or other cylinders when needed, assist Operators whenever press is down.
• Gluer GT tasks (if applicable): feed product into folder/gluer, pack and palletize, print pallet labels with Pecas, locate all required information on job docket and set‑up sheet.
• Forklift Driver tasks (if applicable): maintain and support press operation through safe and effective material handling; safely operate and maintain forklift vehicles; load and unload pallets, waste, record and weigh recyclable material; maintain bi‑annual certification of lift equipment operations; use lift truck to move raw materials, in‑process stock, or finished goods; spot‑check loads for correct labels and codes; place loads in designated warehouse areas; provide support to press, check schedule board for upcoming jobs, ensure press has sufficient materials; remove waste containers and replace full containers; remove waste and cores from press, weigh and put on trucks for recycling; supply corrugated, pallets, and bundler film at delivery end; remove finished loads from delivery end; ensure battery charging equipment and battery replacement as per company policies; file all required paperwork including daily lift truck inspection form; always operate equipment safely; report accidents, injuries, and near‑misses.
• Actively participate as a member of the Press Crew to meet production and team goals; interact with operators, co‑workers and all staff in a respectful, supportive manner; contribute to excellent performance.
• Work effectively with other employees, communicate accurate information, exhibit willingness to assist in getting work completed (including relieving for breaks and helping on other machines when required); be dependable in attendance and punctuality.
• Perform all work or additional tasks as required or requested by Department Leads, Shift Leads, Operators or Management.

Requirements

High School diploma (or GED), one to three years related production experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have very good mechanical and physical ability. Lift truck operators must have and maintain safety training for operation of all company equipment.

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift to 60 lbs. Position may require prolonged standing, stooping, bending, reaching, balancing, climbing, kneeling, crouching, manual manipulation, hearing, and speaking. Manual dexterity, use of close, distance, color, peripheral vision and depth perception is required. Must rotate shifts as required and be available to work more than 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week when needed to meet customer product needs.
