Qualifications

• Masters/doctorate in nursing practice from an accredited program.
• Licensure as RN and NP in applicable states.
• DEA permit to prescribe controlled substances.
• State CS license as required.
• National board certification (AGACNP-BC or ACNPC-AG / ACNP-BC).
• Additional certifications may be required (FNP-BC, FNP-C, AGPCNP-BC, A-GNP).
• Privileging documents and credentialing govern scope of practice.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments for surgical conditions.
• Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests relevant to general surgery.
• Collaborate with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams on care plans.
• Provide preoperative evaluations and patient education.
• Manage postoperative care including recovery, pain, wound care, and complications.
• Assist in surgical procedures under surgeon supervision.
• Prescribe medications and therapies per state laws.
• Document care and maintain medical records.
• Educate patients and families on procedures, recovery, and lifestyle.
• Participate in quality improvement and regulatory compliance.
• Stay current with advances in general surgery and nursing practice.
• This role includes on-call coverage outside regular hours.
