Job summary

The Planet Group is seeking a Mass Grading General Superintendent to lead large-scale utility construction projects nationwide. You will estimate, direct field operations, coordinate activities, manage large craft workforces, and ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to high quality standards.

Key duties include pre-construction planning, scheduling, safety leadership, and coordination with project managers, customers, and subcontractors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent construction experience.
• 14+ years of construction management experience.
• Experience overseeing at least two utility construction projects valued at $600M+.
• Experience managing hundreds of craft employees.
• Extensive pre-construction planning experience.
• Extensive knowledge of utility testing, estimating and quality control.
• Strong knowledge of construction operations, scheduling, budgeting, labor management, safety, and quality control.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Current valid driver's license.
• Ability to travel up to 100%.
• Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

• Assist Field Operations Manager with monthly project review (budget, schedule, labor, safety, quality, equipment).

Location: Nationwide Travel (Monday-Friday travel with weekends home, or assigned to a single project with a 3-week onsite/5-day home rotation)

Pay Range: $180,000 - $210,000 Base Salary + Bonus Opportunities

Qualified candidates must have extensive experience in estimating, leading large-scale utility construction projects. Leadership and oversee the coordination of project site work activities and supervision of on-site work team for multiple complex projects. Candidates must have successfully managed multiple projects valued at $600M or greater, supervised hundreds of craft employees, possess strong pre-construction experience, providing equipment facilities management and be willing to travel nationwide.

Job Description

The Utilities General Superintendent will provide leadership and oversight for multiple large construction projects or highly complex utility construction projects. This individual will be responsible for estimating, directing field operations, coordinating project activities, managing large craft workforces, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the management of construction activities and task assignments by collaborating with other departments to ensure all required materials, equipment and inspections support the project schedule
• Work with Project Manager(s) to budget, forecast, and manage craft labor, equipment, materials, small tools, consumables, and general working environment
• Lead the creation, review and update project schedule and three-week look ahead scheduling and oversee the development and implementation of site utilization plan and establish crew sizes
• Drive effective pre-construction planning sessions and project site meetings
• Provide leadership to work crews and group field operations by coaching, mentorship, performance evaluations, and train field personnel, forepersons, and assistant superintendents, superintendents, and sr. superintendents
• Manage and lead open shop and union issues
• Develop relationships with all visitors to the site: customers, architects, union representatives, subcontractors, etc.
• Lead site work and logistics efficiently, providing suggestions for improvement
• Assist the Field Operations Manager with monthly project review which includes budget, schedule, labor, safety, quality, and equipment

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field OR equivalent construction experience.
• Minimum 14 years of construction management experience.
• Experience overseeing at least two (2) utility construction projects valued at $600 million or greater.
• Experience managing hundreds of craft employees, including Superintendents, General Foremen, Foremen, Operators, and field personnel.
• Extensive pre-construction planning experience.
• Extensive knowledge of utility testing, estimating and quality control.
• Strong knowledge of construction operations, scheduling, budgeting, labor management, safety,and quality control.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Current valid driver's license.
• Ability to travel up to 100%.
• Must be willing to travel weekly (Monday-Friday with weekends home) or work a rotating assignment (3 weeks onsite followed by 5 days home).

Compensation

• Base Salary: $180,000 - $220,000
• Annual Performance Bonus:
  • Target Bonus: Up to 20%
  • 40% based on individual performance
  • 60% based on company performance
  • Opportunity to earn up to 150% of target bonus
  • Paid annually each March
• Incentive Pay Program:
  • Additional 5% bonus paid on every paycheck
• Company-issued credit card for hotel and travel expenses.
