Job summary

Southland Industries seeks an experienced construction supervisor to lead field supervision and craft personnel in piping, plumbing, or sheet metal. You will guide labor planning, ensure safety, and mentor junior supervisors to meet project goals.

You will oversee quality control, cost tracking, and scheduling, while coordinating with union activities and management to resolve issues and keep projects on track.

Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalent; some advanced education and technical training highly desirable.
  • Extensive (10+ years) construction labor management experience or equivalent.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods).
  • 5+ years in supervisory position.
  • Thorough knowledge of company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of OSHA safety regulations and company safety policies.
  • Thorough knowledge of union jurisdiction, labor agreements, and negotiations.
  • Outstanding leadership and team-building skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems before major difficulties develop.
  • Ability to manage differences and diversity at the workplace.
  • Outstanding scheduling and forecasting skills.
  • Solid MS Office skills and ability/desire to learn new software.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, supervisory, and planning skills.
  • Employment contingent on access requirements, etc.
  • OSHA-30 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six months).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction to field supervision and craft personnel to meet project needs.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate craft activities for construction and maintenance.
  • Direct, support, and mentor supervisory personnel.
  • Serve as senior technical advisor for difficult problems.
  • Assist with safety policy implementation and incident investigations.
  • Authorize/approve personnel transactions with Field OPS approval.
  • Develop, implement and monitor quality control programs.
  • Oversee work procedures, damages, delays, and safety concerns.
  • Contribute to project conceptual development and scheduling.
  • Requisition supplies and materials for construction projects.
  • Ensure labor and cost tracking reports are prepared.
  • Assist in supervisory training programs.
  • Provide expertise to home-office department heads.
  • May participate in union negotiations as required.
  • May assume superintendent responsibilities when necessary.

Position Summary

Provide overall direction and guidance to field supervision and craft personnel (piping, plumbing, or sheet metal) and ensure that Southland’s quality, safety, and cost-efficiency guidelines are adhered to.

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate craft personnelin support of the field’sfluctuatinglabor needs for activities related to project/systems construction andmaintenance.
  • Direct, support, and mentor all subordinate supervisory personnel.
  • Serve as senior technicaladvisor. Assist with difficult construction or start-upproblems when necessary.
  • Ensure allcompany, department, and technicalpolicies, procedures, standards,etc., are adhered to.Interpret policies as required.
  • Assist withimplementation andinterpretation of safety policies, procedures, andprograms.
  • Participatein safety/incidentinvestigations and reviews.
  • Authorize/approve allcraft personneltransactions for their dedicated projects (man loading, transfers, wage changes, terminations, etc.) according toindividualperformance and groupneeds with approval from Field OPS manager
  • Develop, implement and monitor quality control programs.
  • Monitor and resolve matters relating to work procedures, complaints, damages,accidents, and delays.
  • Participatein the conceptualdevelopment of a construction project andoverseeits organization, scheduling, andimplementation.
  • Requisition supplies and materials for construction projects.
  • Ensure superintendentsprepare and submitlabor and cost tracking reports.
  • Assist in the development of supervisory training programs.
  • Provide expertise and technicalknowledge to other home office departmentheads.
  • May assistin jurisdictionaldisputes and other union negotiations as required.
  • May assume superintendent responsibilities when necessaryor as directed
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
Qualifications
  • High school degree or equivalent; some advanced education and technical training highly desirable
  • Extensive (10+ years) construction labor management experience (or equivalent combination of education/training and related experience.)
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods)
  • 5+ years in supervisory position
  • Thorough knowledge of company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of OSHA safety regulations as well as company safety policies and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of union jurisdiction, labor agreements, and negotiations
  • Outstanding leadership and team-building skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skillsAbility to identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems before major difficulties develop

  • Employment is contingent upon satisfying all jobsite-specific access requirements, with no outstanding restrictions from any jobsite or from working with any of Southland partnering General Contractors, Owners, Customers, etc.
  • OSHA-30 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire)
