Alta Construction East Inc. is seeking an experienced General Superintendent to lead our field operations across multiple concurrent commercial projects in New York and New Jersey. This senior role emphasizes ownership of results, people leadership, and proactive problem solving.

You will oversee site supervision, coordinate field resources, uphold safety and workmanship standards, and drive projects from mobilization through closeout with autonomy and direct access to company leadership.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Alta Construction East Inc. is an established commercial general contractor specializing in retail construction, commercial interiors, and tenant improvements throughout the New York and New Jersey markets.

We are seeking an experienced General Superintendent to lead our field operations across multiple concurrent projects.

This is a senior leadership position for a construction professional who takes ownership of results, understands how to manage people, and can anticipate and resolve construction challenges before they impact project schedules.

The successful candidate will oversee and support our site superintendents, coordinate field resources, maintain high standards of workmanship and safety, and ensure projects progress efficiently from mobilization through closeout.

We operate in a fast-paced environment with a lean management structure. This position offers substantial autonomy, direct access to company ownership, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our operations.

We are looking for someone who leads by example, communicates effectively, exercises sound judgment, and holds both employees and subcontractors accountable.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight for multiple simultaneous commercial construction projects throughout New York and New Jersey.

• Review project schedules, identify critical milestones, anticipate potential delays, and develop actionable recovery plans when necessary.
• Coordinate subcontractor manpower and sequencing to maintain project progress and enforce commitments.
• Proactively identify construction conflicts, drawing discrepancies, constructability concerns, and other issues that could affect cost, quality, or schedule.
• Work collaboratively with project managers and company leadership to develop practical solutions to field challenges.
• Ensure superintendents thoroughly review construction documents, coordinate trades, maintain accurate daily reports, and communicate issues promptly.
• Conduct regular site visits to assess project progress, workmanship, safety compliance, staffing, and overall site conditions.
• Maintain consistent quality standards and ensure timely completion of inspections, punch lists, and project closeout requirements.
• Communicate project status, upcoming milestones, potential risks, and recommended solutions clearly and professionally.
• Foster accountability, professionalism, and a culture of continuous improvement throughout the field organization.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible commercial construction field experience, with substantial experience in commercial interiors, retail construction, or tenant improvements.
• Demonstrated experience supervising multiple concurrent construction projects.
• Proven ability to lead and manage site superintendents, not solely subcontractors or individual trade crews.
• Strong working knowledge of commercial construction methods, trade coordination, sequencing, and field operations.
• Ability to thoroughly interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing construction documents.
• Demonstrated ability to identify construction conflicts, troubleshoot field conditions, and develop practical solutions.
• Experience developing, reviewing, and maintaining construction schedules, including milestone tracking and schedule recovery.
• Strong leadership, organizational, decision-making, and verbal and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of applicable construction safety practices, building codes, and inspection requirements.
• Proficiency with standard computer applications and the ability to work with digital construction documentation and reporting platforms.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly between project sites throughout New York and New Jersey.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing multiple fast-paced retail or commercial interior renovation projects.
• Experience working in occupied buildings, shopping centers, department stores, or other operational commercial environments.
• Familiarity with Procore, PlanGrid, Raken, and Microsoft Office.
• Experience developing junior superintendents and improving field operations within a growing construction company.
