Job summary

Imperium Global seeks a General Superintendent to lead field operations across multiple civil construction projects in California. You will oversee superintendents, field crews and project planning to ensure safety, on-time delivery and budget adherence.

We require 15+ years in civil construction with at least 5 years in a superintendent role, plus strong Cal/OSHA knowledge and leadership skills. Expect travel to project sites across the region.

Job description

My client is a well-established civil construction contractor in California with a strong record of delivering public and private infrastructure projects. As they keep growing, they’re looking for a General Superintendent to lead field operations across their project portfolio.

The role

This is a senior field leadership role. You’ll oversee all superintendents and field crews to make sure projects are built safely, on schedule, to a high standard and within budget. You’ll work closely with operations leadership, project management and estimating, and you’ll be the most senior voice from the field in the business.

What you’ll be doing

• Leading, mentoring and developing superintendents, foremen and field crews across multiple projects
• Overseeing day-to-day field operations for civil and heavy civil work, including earthwork, grading, underground utilities, paving and concrete
• Planning and scheduling work, and allocating labour and equipment across projects
• Driving a strong safety culture and making sure the company follows Cal/OSHA and company safety standards
• Monitoring production, quality and cost performance against budget and schedule
• Working with project managers on project planning, change orders and problem solving
• Supporting estimating with constructability reviews, means and methods, and production rates
• Building strong relationships with owners, agencies, inspectors and subcontractors
• Taking part in hiring, training and workforce planning for field teams

What they’re looking for

• 15+ years’ civil or heavy civil construction experience, including at least 5 years as a superintendent or general superintendent
• A strong background in earthwork, underground utilities and paving
• Experience running multiple projects and large field teams at the same time

• Experience with California public works projects (Caltrans, municipal or agency work is a plus)
• Strong knowledge of Cal/OSHA safety requirements
• Strong leadership, planning and communication skills
• Comfortable with scheduling and project management software
• Willingness to travel to project sites across the region
