Responsibilities

1. Operate ultrasound equipment to produce diagnostic scans of high quality, ensuring optimal patient care.
2. Evaluate images for quality and adherence to protocols; document findings appropriately.
3. Identify and distinguish normal and abnormal anatomy; document in images and health records.
4. Maintain quality standards through regular peer reviews and participate in feedback sessions.
5. Ensure patient safety and well-being during scans; respond to urgent patient needs.
6. Accurately enter data into patient records and handle medications or contrast media within scope of practice.
7. Perform basic troubleshooting of ultrasound equipment; report issues and ensure equipment safety.
8. Prepare exam rooms, follow infection control protocols, and participate in environment readiness activities.
9. Train and mentor sonography students and new staff members.
10. Participate in departmental meetings and continuing education sessions.

Qualifications

Education

Graduate from an accredited sonography program.

Experience

For Ultrasound or Mammography, no experience required; one year preferred. Equivalent education and certification from ARDMS or ARRT required.

Certifications

Current ARDMS or ARRT registration as specified; additional subspecialty certifications as required by specialty area.

Skills

• Proficiency in operating ultrasound and ancillary equipment.
• Knowledge of anatomy and ability to identify normal and abnormal findings.
• Effective communication skills and patient-centered approach.

Additional Requirements

Current BLS CPR certification; ability to handle emergency situations; adherence to departmental policies and professional standards.
