Job Description
Job-Specific Responsibilities:
- Sets-upandmaintainsassignedstationbefore,duringand after mealperiods.
- Keeps serving areas supplied with clean dishware, glasses, silverware, trays and other suppliesneededduringmeals.
- Monitors serving lines during meals to ensure quality and quantity is suitable to provide for customerdemand.
- Communicates in a timely manner to Supervising Manager or Person-in-Charge concerning foodqualityandissuesofkeepingfood onthe hot andcoldfood stationsabundantduringmealperiods.
- Notifiesstaff responsibleforpreparingfoodof needsprior torunningout.
- Monitors serving lines during meals to ensure quality and quantity are suitable to provide forcustomer demand.
- Utilizing knowledge of food allergies/intolerances, directs students/guests to safe menued items andfood storage areas such as refrigeration, freezer, and dry storage.Informs students/guests on foods toavoid by knowing the menu items and the ingredient listings or by referring them to the person incharge.
- Maintainssafe areabydisplayingwetfloorsignsand promptlyrespondingtospills andbreakages.
- Cleans and sanitizes surface areas including but not limited to walls, cabinets, countertops, shelving,refrigerationand freezerunits.
- Keepsallstorageareasorganizedandclean.
- Accurately fills out sanitation and temperature logs and food service records as required.Informspersonincharge when corrective actionis needed.
- Follows sanitation standards in compliance with all regulatory agencies including HarvardEnvironmental Health andSafetyregulations.
- Recyclesper policyandprocedure,emptiestrashandcleansreceptacles.
- Reportsmalfunctioningequipment tomanagementor personincharge.
- ComplieswithStateofMassachusettsandDiningServices’“FoodEmployeeIllnessPolicy”.
- Supportsalleventsas assignedtoinclude,but not limitedtosetup,execution andcleanup.
- Workstomeetthemissionandcorevaluesof HarvardUniversityDiningServiceswithenthusiasmand aspirit ofcooperation.
- Attendstrainingsasassigned.
- Maintainscurrentcertificationsasrequired.
- Performsotherdutiesasassigned.
NOTE:The General Service position is comprised of three main functions:Front-of-House, BusPerson, Dishroom.In addition to the responsibilities above, employees will be required to perform inanyofthefollowingareas.
BusPerson
- Maintains,fillsandrestocksall stationsasneeded.
- Cleans, sanitizes and maintains soft-serve machine ensuring all local regulations are adhered to.Recordstemperature ofsoft-servemachine.
Dishroom
- Maintainsandfills all necessarychemicalsanddetergent.
- Fills,empties,cleansandde-limesdishmachine.
- Responsiblefor allware-washingandsanitationof allfoodandnon-foodcontactsurfaces.
- During meal periods, checks temperature of dish machine tanks to ensure accuracy for wash and finalrinse.Accurately record temperature in log book as required.Inform person in charge whencorrectiveaction is needed.
- Keepsallequipment in dishroomcleanand sanitizedincludingdishracks,carts and caddies.
- Cleanstables,conveyor beltanddisposal units.
Front-of-House
- Ensuresfoodisproperlylabeled,garnishedandutensils areinplace.
- Keepsservinganddiningareasclean.Replenishesnapkinholdersand salt/pepper shakers.
Physical Requirements:
- Routine: must be able to lift 50 lbs. without restrictions.Continuous: standing, walking,lifting,manual dexterity, reaching, handling, bending
- Frequent: push/pull,bending,ascendinganddescendingstairsandladders
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- HighSchoolDiplomaor equivalent.
- MusthaveproficiencywiththeEnglishlanguage (speaking,readingandwriting).
- Must have basic math skills and ability to analyze digital and analog thermometers and othermeasuringdevices.
- Mustbeabletofollowdirections.
- Mustbeneat inappearanceandcomplywith properdresscodeasdesignated byHUDS.
- Mustbeableto work independentlyandas partofateam.
- Musthavestrongmulti-taskingskills.
- Communicateseffectivelyand workscooperativelyand respectfullywith a diverse set of staff,management teamand guests.
- Mustbeabletowork ina fast-paced diverse environment.

Standard Hours/Schedule: 24 hours per week
- Sunday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday 4:30pm - 8:30pm & Monday 7:00am - 3:00pm
Compensation Range/Rate (including Shift Differential if applicable): 26.77-28.27
