Job Description

Introduction

Our client is a well-established small animal veterinary practice in Portland, OR, seeking a new veterinarian to join their highly experienced and close-knit team. With a strong presence in the local community since 1993, the clinic provides comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental care for dogs and cats, with occasional treatment of rabbits and pocket pets.

Working Hours / Rota

The practice is open Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, with clinical activity tapering off around 5:30 PM for charting and wrap-up. The clinic is also open 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturdays. Flexibility in scheduling is available, with most full-time doctors working 2–4 days per week. No on-call responsibilities.

Role Description And Responsibilities

The incoming veterinarian will join a collaborative team focused on high-quality care in a non-competitive environment. The role includes general medicine, soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and preventative care. There are opportunities to participate in more advanced surgeries (GI foreign bodies, cystotomies, feline PU, orthopedics) and access to in-house consultations with a board-certified internist and cardiologist. Relief and specialty support are available as needed.

Practice Details and Team

The clinic occupies a purpose-built, two-story facility with dedicated cat and dog entrances, a central treatment area, four exam rooms, a surgical suite, a dental suite, and separate cat/dog wards. It is fully equipped with digital radiography, dental radiography, ultrasound, and a full IDEXX in-house lab. The environment is designed for efficiency, comfort, and patient well-being, with thoughtful infrastructure and a strong commitment to low-stress handling and community engagement.

Team Size

Currently supported by three full-time and three part-time DVMs, including one with 26 years at the clinic and another with over a decade of tenure. The practice benefits from long-standing technicians (tenure ranging from 8 to 23+ years) and regular relief support. The work environment is described as friendly, stable, and highly collaborative.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is compassionate, communicative, and aligned with the practice’s values of team-based medicine and community engagement. Surgical ability is welcome but not required. New graduates and experienced veterinarians alike will be considered.

Every candidate MUST be licensed to work in the state they are applying to work in or be in process of being licensed. They must hold the necessary degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA).
