Job description

Job Description

Utilidata is a fast-growing energy technology company using distributed artificial intelligence (AI) to accelerate the clean energy transition and better serve utility customers. As the electric grid becomes more complex with the rapid increase of electric vehicles, distributed solar, batteries, heat pumps, and extreme weather, utilities need real-time visibility of grid conditions. Utilidata’s distributed AI platform Karman, powered by our custom NVIDIA module, is transforming the way utility companies operate with real-time visibility at the grid edge to better utilize customer energy resources, reduce power outages, and enable quicker storm recovery.

Our team is seeking a General Manager, Utilities who will be responsible for driving pre- and post-sales efforts with utility customers. Success in this role will be measured by the number of contracts signed, units deployed, pipeline growth, and resolving utility business challenges. This leader will champion Karman's adoption within the U.S. utility sector, drive profitability, and serve as the voice of the utility business in internal strategic discussions. The role offers the opportunity to shape the future of Karman’s utility initiatives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. We seek a strategic, results-oriented leader who thrives on solving complex challenges and driving impactful outcomes, demonstrating collaboration, adaptability, and mission-driven focus. This is a remote position based in the United States, requiring collaboration with cross-functional, remote teams nationwide.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead, mentor, and manage a team to secure utility contracts and deploy solutions effectively
  2. Develop and maintain relationships with utility hardware channel partners embedding Karman
  3. Build and maintain a robust pipeline of prospective utility customers to drive growth and adoption
  4. Act as the primary voice of the utility sector in internal strategic discussions, including product prioritization and business planning
  5. Collaborate with Policy & Market Development, Product, and other teams to ensure alignment and impact in the utility vertical
  6. Define and measure success metrics such as contracts signed, product deployments, and pipeline progression
  7. Identify and solve key utility business challenges through collaborative and innovative approaches
  8. Stay informed on trends, regulations, and developments in the utility sector to guide strategy and operations
  9. Collaborate with the People team to recruit top talent, integrate new hires, and retain staff
Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years of utility sector experience, including proven sales, business development, or operational success, with leadership experience
  • Strong leadership skills with cross-functional team management
  • Ability to articulate an ambitious vision for a transformational product
  • Successful contract acquisition, partnership development, and product deployment experience
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills for stakeholder engagement
  • Strong analytical skills with data-driven decision-making experience
  • Knowledge of utility sector regulations, trends, and business models
  • Willingness to travel up to 35%
Enhanced Qualifications (Nice to Have)
  • Advanced degree in business, engineering, or related fields
  • Experience with hardware and software solutions in the utility sector
  • Background in startup or high-growth environments
  • Familiarity with U.S. energy policies, market dynamics, and emerging tech
  • Track record of achieving profitability within a business vertical
  • Experience influencing product development based on customer feedback
