The General Manager, Refined Products Trading is responsible for trading a variety of commodity streams including Distillate, multiple Gasoline streams, Ethanol, Bio-diesel, and Ultra-Low sulfur heating oil and government compliance credits including Sulphur and Benzene. The position will be responsible for the daily trading, supply, and price risk management surrounding our 40kbd of diesel production (approximately $1.8B/year of product sales) and 40kbd of gasoline production (approximately $1.6B/year of product sales), focusing on refinery optimization and working with the refinery Optimization team and Wholesale Rack team to generate the production for the best margin netback. This role will assist in the procurement of Ethanol and Bio-diesel that is used in the Wholesale Rack blending program, as well as have sole responsibility for procuring benzene (approximately $15M per year of spend) and sulfur credits (approximately $10 million per year of revenue) around Monroe Energy’s obligations.

Job Dimensions:
  • Job availability is 24/7 due to deadlines, job responsibilities, and interaction with the Monroe organization. The ability to travel to meet with counterparts and build relationships is required.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the market for opportunities to optimize diesel and gasoline production and margin netbacks.
  • Work closely with the products scheduling team to solve logistical issues and communicate intentions for production supply chains.
  • Collaborate with the Wholesale Marketing team on forecast and procurement of ethanol and bio-diesel blending needs.
  • Monitor supply/demand and market pricing for benzene and sulfur credits, focusing on value generation and risk mitigation, with a goal of beating the annual budget.
  • Stay updated on news and government regulations, working closely with government affairs to manage Monroe’s risk to price fluctuations on compliance obligations.
  • Become fluent in full desk coverage responsibilities for Northeast markets and pipeline distribution networks that the Monroe refinery can utilize.
  • Build and maintain commercial relationships, focusing on long-term strategic partnerships.
  • Develop and support business development ideas to assist with the optimization of the refinery.
  • Provide ad hoc reporting for senior management as well as contributions to quarterly board meeting reports.
  • Develop and execute physical and financial trades with the goal of beating index averages on a consistent basis.
  • Must be able to work independently and generate creative solutions.
What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)
  • 5+ years of experience in Oil Trading, Contract Negotiations, Energy Management, or Supply Logistics experience is required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a trading desk environment with exposure to changing priorities, tight deadlines, and expectations that multiple projects can be managed concurrently.
  • Highly proficient in supplier communications, negotiations, and conflict resolution.
  • Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data.
  • Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.
  • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.
  • At least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
