Job summary

Restaurant General Manager – Job Purpose

The Restaurant General Manager provides leadership to ensure that all team members are guest‑focused, team‑focused, and community‑connected. The role incorporates restaurant operations, staff management, coaching and training of Assistant General Managers, Department Managers, Restaurant Support Managers and Hourly Team Members to build sales and profits while maintaining operating standards. The Manager ensures the overall integrity of the Buffalo Wild Wings brand, overseeing financial and operational goals, women’s performance, cost controls, and the development and retention of staff.

Restaurant General Manager – Specific Responsibilities
TEAM
  • Develop, implement and execute the overall business staff plan; maintain proper staffing levels for each Department Manager to build sales.

  • Hold all managers and hourly team members accountable for contributing to company objectives.
  • Create and maintain an open‑door policy with all managers and team members for open and honest communication and appreciation of contributions.
  • Directions to all managers, especially Department Managers, for performance management of team members.
  • Effectively train and develop managers, with focus on Department Managers and Managers in Training.
  • Develop and follow up on Individual Development Plans and performance improvement action plans for all managers.
  • Ensure hourly development plans are implemented by Department Managers.
  • Conduct informative, focused weekly manager meetings that include a written agenda.
  • Model pre‑shift meetings, build camaraderie and solicit feedback; ensure all managers hold effective pre‑shift meetings.
  • Ensure effective communication among all Department Managers, Restaurant Support Managers and Hourly Team Members.
  • Build positive professional relationships with managers and team members, ensuring high morale and a fun work environment.
  • Ensure recognition and reward programs are in place in each department to recognize superior performance.
  • Maintain all turnover and retention targets.
  • Model exemplary leadership behaviors and skills and ensure all managers follow this lead.
GUEST
  • Ensure all managers and team members are guest‑focused first and consistently display hospitality skills (e.g., 100% manager table visits, warm hellos, goodbyes).
  • Respond to guest comments and criticisms constructively, positively and timely, turning them into opportunities to increase guest count.
  • Educate and empower Department Managers, Restaurant Support Managers and Team Members to act in a similar capacity.
  • Actively seek, identify and implement techniques to attract new guests.
  • Build professional relationships with local businesses and community organizations.
  • Deliver superior GEM (Guest Loyalty Index) results through outstanding service and product quality.
  • Maintain proper staffing levels for outstanding guest service.
  • Ensure all staff are properly trained to deliver outstanding results.
  • Deliver a WOW experience for every guest, every time.
QUALITY OPERATIONS
  • Leverage compliance and feedback information (GEM, QSC’s, Steritech audits, Mystery Shop feedback, etc.) to improve overall restaurant performance.
  • Ensure adherence to company‑specified systems, tools and procedures for shift execution by all team members and managers.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Serve Safe Food, Responsible Alcohol Service (RAS) and HACCP standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all city, county, state and federal laws related to the food and beverage industry.
  • Keep current with and implement new programs, policies, procedures and product promotions.
  • Maintain high quality service and cleanliness standards at all times.
  • Ensure managers hold team members accountable for daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedules.
  • Consistently deliver the Buffalo Wild Wings experience through superior AV management and sports awareness.
SALES AND PROFITS
  • Create, develop and implement an effective local store marketing plan within budgeted parameters.
  • Approve all department schedules to ensure acceptable labor results and guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain utility conservation and educate managers on controlling utility costs.
  • Reconcile profit and loss statements, perform analysis and communicate results to management.
  • Establish daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly sales goals/forecasts to meet budgeted expectations.
  • Conduct effective Period Business Review Meetings.
  • Meet or exceed budgeted profit goals, react to trends and troubleshoot problem areas.
  • Break down sales and profit goals to managers and ensure understanding of maximizing bonus potential.
  • Hold Department Managers accountable for departmental P&L line‑item responsibility and coach them on goal attainment.
  • Grow sales through outstanding guest experience.
  • Ensure all safety and security policies are followed, including loss prevention actions.
  • Use key financial tools and control systems accurately (Aspect, Back Office, BQI, etc.).
  • Teach managers how to complete Period Business Reviews and the Weekly DM Summary.
  • Maintain and manage all unit R&M issues to keep the restaurant in “like new” condition.
  • Implement corrective action plans promptly when trends change.
  • Complete all other assigned duties or tasks as required.
