Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and management of the recycling facility.
  • Oversee operations managers and ensure efficient facility operations.
  • Develop operational strategies to improve productivity and cost efficiency.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to improve productivity, material recovery rates, quality, and cost efficiency.
  • Ensure quality recycling production through employee training, inspection processes, and ongoing quality control initiatives.
  • Oversee proper grading and inspection of inbound recycling materials, with a focus on managing contaminated or downgraded loads.
  • Monitor and manage inbound and outbound material flow including receiving, processing, and shipping operations.
  • Ensure the facility and surrounding grounds remain clean, organized, and compliant with operational and safety standards.
  • Regular facility inspections with focus on safety, equipment performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with maintenance teams to ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently and repairs are addressed promptly.
  • Coordinate with transportation teams to ensure efficient unloading and movement of materials delivered by company drivers and third-party haulers.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, and development of facility staff, including leadership roles, ensuring adequate staffing levels.
  • Manage employee performance including coaching and disciplinary actions in collaboration with HR.
  • Oversee scheduling, payroll coordination, and workforce planning for all shifts.
  • Manage injury and accident reporting in collaboration with EHS and HR.
  • Oversee tracking and reporting of production data, uptime, metrics, and KPIs.
  • Manage facility budgets and costs while identifying opportunities for savings and improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with sales and business development for customer service and profitability.
  • Manage relationships with municipal customers, e.g., COSA, and ensure contract compliance.

About the Role:

The primary focus of the General Manager position is to provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the recycling facility, ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable operations. This role is responsible for overseeing all operational functions including production, maintenance, transportation coordination, staffing, and administrative activities while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

The General Manager works closely with company leadership and manages cross-functional teams across operations, warehouse, maintenance, and transportation to ensure the facility meets performance, safety, and financial goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage employee performance including coaching, performance improvement plans, disciplinary actions, and terminations in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Oversee employee scheduling, payroll coordination, and workforce planning to ensure operational coverage across all shifts.
  • Manage injury and accident reporting, including post-incident follow-up in collaboration with the company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety team and Human Resources.
  • Oversee tracking and reporting of production data, uptime, operational metrics, and other key performance indicators.
  • Manage facility budgets and operational expenses while monitoring financial performance and identifying opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.
  • Ensure the facility maintains compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordination with sales and business development as it relates to customer service and account profitability.
  • Manage relationships with municipal customers, ie, COSA and ensure contract compliance at all times.
  • Support corporate initiatives, reporting requirements, and operational improvement projects.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in facility management, plant management, or operations leadership within recycling, waste management, manufacturing, logistics, or a similar industry.
  • Previous experience leading large operational teams and managing facility-level performance.
  • Experience in recycling, waste management, manufacturing, or a similar industrial environment in a plant, operations, or general management role.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple teams and levels of staff within a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, financial, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets, analyze operational performance, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Up to 15%, dependent on travel restrictions of the area and/or company needs.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly use hands and fingers to handle or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to sit, walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, speak, and hear.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
