Job description

General Manager – Community Association Management

MAY Management Services

Job Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

MAY Management Services is seeking an experienced and highly motivated General Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our Ponte Vedra Beach office. This is a leadership position designed for an experienced Florida-licensed Community Association Manager (CAM) who understands the HOA/COA industry, knows how to build strong relationships with Boards and homeowners, and has the leadership ability to support and develop a team of Community Association Managers. The General Manager will oversee a team of licensed CAMs within the Ponte Vedra office while maintaining a small portfolio of associations.

This individual will serve as a resource and escalation point for the management team, helping CAMs navigate challenging Board relationships, homeowner concerns, compliance matters, financial issues, vendor challenges, and overall community operations. The ideal candidate will be a proven community association management professional with 5+ years of licensed CAM experience, strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a demonstrated ability to hold a team accountable while maintaining a high level of client service.

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and support a team of licensed Community Association Managers.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to CAMs regarding Board relations, homeowner concerns, vendor management, inspections, maintenance, financial matters, and association operations.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and one-on-one check-ins to review priorities, challenges, and performance.
  • Establish expectations for responsiveness, communication, documentation, and client service.
  • Monitor team performance and help identify opportunities for improvement and professional development.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new Community Association Managers.
  • Serve as a resource for CAMs when handling difficult or escalated situations.
  • Promote consistency and accountability across the Ponte Vedra management team.
  • Work closely with corporate leadership regarding staffing, performance, client retention, and operational needs.

Association & Client Management

  • Maintain a small portfolio of assigned HOA/COA communities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned Boards of Directors and association members.
  • Attend and facilitate Board meetings, annual meetings, committee meetings, and other association meetings as required.
  • Prepare agendas, management reports, meeting materials, and other documentation.
  • Ensure Board members receive timely updates regarding projects, violations, maintenance, financial matters, and outstanding action items.
  • Develop strong, professional relationships with Board members and community stakeholders.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to Board and homeowner concerns.
  • Identify potential client issues before they escalate and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Assist with client retention and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction.

Operational Oversight

  • Ensure CAMs are consistently following MAY Management policies, procedures, and service standards.
  • Review community management practices and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and client service.
  • Assist with oversight of property inspections, maintenance, vendors, architectural review, covenant enforcement, and community improvement projects.
  • Provide guidance regarding association budgets, financial statements, collections, reserves, and other financial matters.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Florida statutes, governing documents, association policies, and MAY Management procedures.
  • Review and assist with escalated violation and covenant enforcement matters.
  • Coordinate with internal accounting, maintenance, compliance, and administrative teams to resolve community issues.
  • Assist leadership with special projects and operational initiatives affecting the Ponte Vedra office.

The General Manager is expected to lead by example and establish a culture centered around accountability, responsiveness, professionalism, and client service. This person should be comfortable stepping in when a CAM needs assistance, but also understand that effective leadership means developing managers to solve problems independently rather than simply solving every problem for them.

The successful candidate will be:

  • A strong people leader and mentor.
  • Comfortable having difficult conversations and holding employees accountable.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing competing priorities.
  • A confident communicator with Boards, homeowners, vendors, and employees.
  • Calm and professional when dealing with challenging situations.
  • Proactive rather than reactive.
  • Knowledgeable about Florida HOA/COA laws and community association best practices.
  • Focused on developing and retaining a strong CAM team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of licensed Community Association Management experience – REQUIRED.
  • Proven experience managing HOA and/or condominium associations.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or management experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Florida community association statutes, including Chapters 718 and 720.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with Boards of Directors.
  • Strong knowledge of association financials, budgets, reserve planning, vendor management, inspections, and covenant enforcement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong conflict-resolution and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information professionally.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and association management software.
  • Ability to travel locally to communities and association meetings as needed.

Preferred Experience

Candidates with the following experience are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Senior CAM, Lead CAM, Regional CAM, CAM Supervisor, or similar leadership experience.
  • Experience managing or mentoring other Community Association Managers.
  • Experience overseeing multiple CAMs or a community management department.
