Job description

MatchBuilt is partnering with a leading construction services company serving homebuilders, developers, and contractors throughout the Southeast to identify a General Manager for its North Carolina operations. This executive will oversee four established branches in Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Charlotte, and Greenville and be responsible for a large field-based workforce.

Experience in the company’s specific service line is not required. However, strong existing relationships with production homebuilders, residential developers, grading contractors, and other construction decision-makers throughout North Carolina are essential.

The company is seeking a highly visible operations leader who knows the market, can open doors, and will personally help strengthen customer relationships across all four branches.

The General Manager will lead branch performance, develop the management team, drive operational and financial results, and expand the company’s presence across some of North Carolina’s most active residential construction markets.

The North Carolina operation has a strong team and internal processes already in place. This is not a turnaround assignment. It is an opportunity for an experienced construction services leader to build upon that foundation, increase market penetration, and significantly grow the company’s presence throughout the state.

The General Manager may be based in any of the company’s four North Carolina markets, although Raleigh or Charlotte is preferred.

About the Role
  • Lead the company’s North Carolina operations across four branches in Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Charlotte, and Greenville.
  • Provide leadership to four Branch Managers with responsibility for individual profit centers, area quality managers, field crews, customer service, and local operating performance.
  • Maintain full responsibility for regional financial performance, including revenue growth, profitability, labor management, operating expenses, equipment utilization, and overall P&L results.
  • Develop and execute operating plans designed to increase market share and strengthen the company’s position across North Carolina.
  • Build strong relationships with production homebuilders, residential developers, grading contractors, utility contractors, local agencies, and other construction industry partners.
  • Remain highly visible throughout the market by regularly meeting with customers, visiting branch locations, attending industry events, and developing new business relationships.
  • Help Branch Managers strengthen their local customer relationships and become more connected with decision‑makers in their respective markets.
  • Recruit, develop, manage, and retain branch leadership while holding managers accountable for financial performance, customer service, safety, quality, and employee development.
  • Evaluate branch leadership and organizational needs, making personnel changes when necessary to improve performance.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators related to revenue, gross margin, labor productivity, customer satisfaction, safety, quality, and branch profitability.
  • Ensure field services are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company standards and customer expectations.
  • Partner with senior leadership and corporate departments on hiring, financial reporting, equipment needs, workforce planning, safety, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Promote consistent operating standards, accountability, and communication across all four North Carolina branches.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, human resources procedures, compensation programs, OSHA requirements, DOT regulations, and applicable safety standards.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Approximately 15 to 20 years of progressive leadership experience within construction services, building materials, site development, specialty contracting, equipment services, or a related industry.
  • Previous responsibility for a sizable business, region, or operating group.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple branches, locations, profit centers, or geographically dispersed operating teams.
  • Strong operational leadership experience with responsibility for hiring, developing, managing, evaluating, and disciplining employees.
  • Proven success leading Branch Managers, operations leaders, area managers, and field-based workforces.
  • Direct responsibility for financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, profitability, labor management, and P&L results.
  • Strong commercial instincts with the ability to strengthen customer relationships and identify opportunities for profitable growth.
  • Established relationships within the North Carolina construction, residential development, grading, utility, equipment, or building materials markets, or the ability to develop those relationships quickly.
  • Experience working directly with customers and maintaining an active presence throughout the market.
  • Strong knowledge of field operations, workforce planning, safety, quality control, equipment utilization, and construction-related logistics.
  • Ability to lead independently while communicating effectively with executive leadership and corporate support departments.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience serving production homebuilders, residential developers, grading contractors, utility contractors, or other high-volume construction customers.
  • Leadership experience within construction services, insulation, precast concrete, erosion control, concrete pumping, equipment rental, heavy equipment, trucking, utility contracting, grading, or site-development services.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, construction management, engineering, operations, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, environmental, and construction safety requirements.
  • Experience operating in a fast‑paced environment with a large hourly or field-based workforce.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Vehicle allowance or company-supported transportation program.

  • Additional training and professional development opportunities.
