Job summary

Alter Trading seeks a General Manager for the Council Bluffs, IA facility with direct Auto Shredder experience in metal recycling. The role leads shredding, ferrous/non-ferrous, and transportation operations under the Regional Director of Operations to ensure safe, efficient performance.

You will hire and supervise staff, interact with customers, price scrap, and maintain ISO/OSHA standards while controlling costs to meet budgets and ROI targets.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in Shredder Operations is required.
• 5 years of industry experience including supervisory experience.
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, management or related area is preferred.
• Excellent open communication style to build trust with all levels of the company and with vendors/customers.
• Willingness to travel occasionally; valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee shredding, ferrous, non-ferrous and transportation departments.
• Supervise employees including hiring, discipline, and terminations as necessary.
• Interact with customers on a regular basis.
• Grade and price scrap; may issue payments to customers.
• Maintain relationships with commercial and peddler customers.
• Ensure safety and environmental objectives and ISO/OSHA compliance.
• Supervise building and equipment maintenance and replacement needs.
• Manage costs and expenditures to meet budgeted targets for yard volume, net profit and ROI.
• Prepare and monitor annual budgets and monthly operating reports.

ABOUT THE GENERAL MANAGER JOB:

Under the direction of the Regional Director of Operations, responsible for all activities including planning, maintenance, staffing, training and operation associated with the safe and efficient functioning of the Council Bluffs, IA facility which is located right over the river from Omaha, NE

ABOUT YOU, GENERAL MANAGER REQUIREMENTS:
