About Boston Laundry & Lapels Laundromat:

Lapels Laundromat, located in East Boston, is a state-of-the-art store that offers garment care through several means: traditional self-service laundry, full-service laundry offering wash, dry and fold services, and dry cleaning. The Role: General Manager

We are looking for a passionate Laundromat General Manager to manage our state-of-the-art store! Reporting directly to the Ownership Team, the General Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations and financial performance of their Lapels Laundromat store. The General Manager’s role is both an individual contributor of the store’s services, as well as one who oversees the laundromat operations and staff, ensuring a high level of service, safety, and cleanliness. Key responsibilities include:

Customer Service & Satisfaction:

  • Take ownership of providing excellent customer service by all team members.
  • Assist customers with self-service laundry card usage, machine selection, retail purchases, wash and fold orders, drycleaning orders, and any other inquiries or concerns.
  • Proactively anticipate & resolve customer issues and professionally respond to concerns or complaints brought by customers.

Premium Services, Dry Cleaning & Wash and Fold Operations:

  • Be the onsite expert in garment care and fabrics needing specialized care.
  • Perform order fulfillment and ensure consistent quality and customer satisfaction with all premium services.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of all retail products, the equipment, their uses and benefits.
  • Ensure retail shelves are stocked and organized in an appealing fashion.
  • Promote additional product sales to customers.

Team Management:

  • Hire, Train, Evaluate, and Supervise all employees of the laundromat store.
  • Schedule shifts, approve timesheets, and maintain proper employee support, labor postings, uniforms and tools needed by the team.

Operational Management:

  • Financial: Be the onsite expert of the point-of-sale system, follow proper card & cash handing procedures, and monitor the performance and profitability of the laundromat.
  • Administrative: Use a computerized logbook system to track orders, monitor equipment usage, and machine & building cleaning/maintenance. Compile business reports or other required information for the ownership team.
  • Inventory: Manage ordering, receiving, auditing and stocking of retails items. Monitor and purchase maintenance, safety, first aid & cleaning supplies.
  • Building & Machine Maintenance: perform minor repairs and routine maintenance as needed. Facilitate service visits by technicians when needed and maintain records.

Store Safety & Security:

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment both inside and outside of the laundromat, including use of the onsite security system.
  • Address any safety concerns or hazardous situations immediately during your shift.
  • Follow established safety protocols and provide team training to prevent accidents and injuries for both customers and staff.
  • Be prepared for emergencies such as fires, severe weather & disruptions, ensuring the safety of everyone in the store.
  • Oversee effective store opening and closing procedures and protocol.

Store Cleanliness & Maintenance:

  • Ensure the store is consistently clean and well-maintained, including both the interior and exterior.
  • Address any safety concerns or hazardous situations immediately during your shift.
  • Regularly walk the floor to collect debris, empty trash, inspect bathrooms, and perform other necessary light cleaning duties.
  • Regularly inspect and clean the washing and dryer lint and drain screens.

Our Managers are the face of our stores and are fully involved at all levels: assisting customers, performing direct service, and owning the operations of the store. This position requires an individual who is highly organized, customer-focused, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities with keen attention to detail.

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a supervisory and managerial role, with demonstrated team leadership & training experience.
  • Experience in the garment care or closely related industry is preferred.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills. Ability to resolve customer concerns/complaints in a professional and timely manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and solid basic computing and administrative skills.
  • Ability to perform minor routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Must be able to stand for up to 8+ hours at a time for a shift.
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and be available to the team while store is in operation.
  • Experience opening a new store a plus.
  • Preference for multilingual skills that match our customer base (English required, Spanish preferred, other languages a plus)

Location: This position works onsite. Liberty Plaza. East Boston, MA.

Compensation and Schedule: This is a full-time, exempt position. Annual base salary range of $60,000-$70,000, plus bonus. A competitive benefits package, PTO and other perks are included.
