About the Role:

The key responsibilities of the General Manager include but are not limited to:
  • Sales and Marketing:

Working closely with Sales and Marketing team to develop revenue generating strategies for the Hotel; identifying new business leads, assisting the Director of Sales in developing a tailored sales approach for the sales team, and actively pursuing leads with the sales team; ensuring sales and marketing strategies are aligned with relevant brand strategies and that the strategies are effectively executed against established goals; leading hotel public relations, marketing and social media strategies and guiding implementation of initiatives through relevant personnel.

  • Revenue Management:

Working with Revenue Management to develop effective pricing strategies, balancing seasonality, economic factors, market segments, hotel goals and guest satisfaction; maximizing revenues by anticipating and planning for market shifts; establishing revenue strategies that support the Hotel’s positioning in local to international markets; ensuring demand forecasting and sound revenue practices are in place to maximize yield; identifying ways to grow all revenue streams including ADR, Occupancy, RevPAR, Market share and building Banquet & Catering revenues by researching and remaining current of competitor strategies.

  • Business Analysis, Strategic Planning and Execution:

Reviewing business related data such as market share, financial performance, inventory, associate engagement, online reviews and guest satisfaction; reputation management; analyzing business information to proactively address changing market conditions; integrating business information into strategic and tactical business plans; using business information to identify indicators of product and service successes and opportunities for improvement on a continual basis.

  • Financial Performance:

Developing the annual budget and capital budget in conjunction with the Executive Committee and Corporate Office; working closely with the Controller to plan, manage, review and approve all operating expenses to ensure optimal levels of the hotel’s fiscal performance; coordinating capital improvement projects to maintain and/or upgrade quality standards and hotel image and present priority capital projects to ownership for approval; controlling labor and capital expenses.

  • Associate Relations:

Communicating hotel business information in a timely manner to ensure associates are well-versed to undertake their duties; Leading associates to increase the level of engagement; understanding the performance expectations for all positions within the hotel and supporting the managers in being able to successfully provide them with sufficient training to meet performance expectations; managing labor relations; conducting human resources transactions to support needs of the hotel (e.g., compensation decisions and actions, initiation and approval of hiring requisitions.)

  • Corporate Board Relations:

The Battery Wharf Hotel is a mix use dynamic project, consisting of boutique hotel, retail, luxury condominium, and parking. Included is the oversight of the Master Association Board, leasing, engineering department and security department and those associates will report to you.

  • Operations:

Overseeing operational leaders, the role requires building relationships, developing and guiding direct reports and, when needed, additional subordinates who oversee such departments as Front Office, Housekeeping & Laundry, Banquets, Culinary, Stewarding, Restaurant, and Engineering.

This position directly leads an Executive Committee team and oversees or is responsible for the following departments: Sales & Marketing; Catering & Events; Revenue Management; Finance; Human Capital; and the Director of Operations.

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Minimum 2 years working experience in North America as a Director of Operations of a 200 room or greater full-service, world class hotel.
  • Core experience in Sales & Marketing, Catering & Events and Revenue Management, including previous experience managing a sales team.
  • Additional experience in the operation of a diversified market mix that includes corporate, transient, groups and crew markets, as well as large-scale Banquet facilities and food and beverage outlets.
  • Proven success in working in a competitive marketplace.
  • Previous experience in unionized properties with the skills to negotiate and guide teams in union and legal matters.
  • Ability to work effectively with a participative owner.
  • Computer Skills - Demonstrated ability with regards to computer skills, including an intermediate level of Microsoft Office Suite, proficiency with e-mail, internet, and data base applications and various social media mediums. Understanding and experience in using hotel programs (i.e.: Opera, Passkey, IDEAS etc.) is preferred.
