Qualifications

  • Age 21+ required.
  • Bachelor's degree in business/management preferred.
  • Experience in retail management, ideally in medical cannabis.
  • Experience in inventory management, customer service, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong team management and leadership skills.
  • Excellent customer service and solid communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable in medical marijuana products, including uses and effects.
  • Familiar with Kentucky regulations regarding sale of medical marijuana.
  • Proficient with POS systems, inventory tracking software, and general computer applications.
  • High attention to detail, particularly around regulatory compliance and accurate recordkeeping.
  • Trustworthy and honest; able to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for managing difficult situations or patients.
  • Well-versed in cannabis industry security practices.
  • Must qualify for and maintain a valid Kentucky dispensary agent registration, including passing a state-required criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Hold primary accountability for the day-to-day managerial and operational activities of the dispensary.
  • Provide overall management and leadership at the dispensary.
  • Maintain daily or weekly consultation with the COO, as necessary.
  • Jointly with the COO, approve payroll, staff schedules, and recruitment/hiring decisions.
  • Handle patient complaints/concerns and staff performance issues.
  • Maintain compliance with Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis requirements.
  • Implement Quality Assurance and High Reliability protocols.
  • Oversee the dispensary's employee training program and ensure training files are accurate, complete, and compliant.
  • Provide daily patient care and counseling on cannabis use and strains.
  • Educate patients on strain selection, proper use, warnings, risks, and MTM approaches.
  • Process and accurately dispense orders with proper labeling.
  • Work with Inventory Control & Records Manager to monitor inventory and secure product delivery.
  • Oversee processes for returns, recalls, disposal, and related recordkeeping.
  • Recruit and retain high-quality staff; provide supervision and development.
  • Implement community outreach and partnerships.

Role Description

The General Manager holds primary, day-to-day accountability for Mantra Journey's dispensary operations in Bardstown, Kentucky. The GM will be providing hands-on leadership across patient care, regulatory compliance, inventory, and staff. The GM works in regular consultation with the COO and shares joint authority with the COO on payroll, staffing, and hiring decisions. Unlike front-line patient-service staff, who are limited to factual, label-based product information, the GM provides direct patient counseling on medical cannabis use, strain selection, and consumption considerations.

Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Bachelor's degree in business, management, or a related field preferred
  • Prior experience in retail management preferred, ideally with experience in the medical cannabis industry
  • Experience in inventory management, customer service, and regulatory compliance
  • Strong team management abilities and leadership skills

Duties & Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
  • Hold primary accountability for the day-to-day managerial and operational activities of the dispensary.
  • Provide overall management and leadership at the dispensary.

  • Jointly with the COO, approve payroll, staff schedules, and recruitment/hiring decisions.

Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with all requirements of the Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis (KY-OMC).
  • Implement Quality Assurance and High Reliability protocols.
  • Oversee the dispensary's employee training program and ensure training files are accurate, complete, and compliant.
Patient Care & Counseling
  • Provide daily patient care, health and wellness services at the highest, most disciplined level.
  • Counsel patients regarding marijuana usage and other related questions or concerns.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on strain selection, proper use, warnings, risks, and other aspects of medical marijuana use.
  • Implement the Medication Therapy Management (MTM) approach in patient consultations.
  • Process and accurately dispense orders, including proper handling and labeling.
Inventory & Product Management
  • Work with the Inventory Control & Records Manager (ICRM) to monitor appropriate inventory levels and revise gaps in inventory controls and procedures.
  • Work with the ICRM to order products and ensure secure delivery of product.
  • Work with the ICRM to oversee processes and procedures for returns, recalls, disposal, and related recordkeeping.
Staff Management & Development
  • Recruit and retain high-quality staff for each department.
  • Provide supervision and development opportunities for employees in assigned areas — training, mentoring, assigning duties, providing performance feedback and recognition, and ensuring diversity awareness.
Community & Partnerships
  • Implement community outreach and partnership efforts.
  • Identify and collaborate with other partnering professionals.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk the sales floor for extended periods
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs (product displays, inventory, supplies)
  • Manual dexterity for POS, computer, and documentation systems
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to verify identification documents and communicate clearly with patients and staff
