USC Housing, a division of USC Auxiliary Services, hosts more than 9,000 students, athletes, faculty, and staff throughout the year in over properties on and off campus. Housing aims to make students feel comfortable, safe, and welcome, offering top-notch amenities including comprehensive recycling programs and simplified online repair requests. We are seeking to build a pool of candidates for future positions to join our rapidly growing team.

The Opportunity :

With the capacity to house over 9,000 Trojans, we need a General Maintenance Worker to monitor our facilities and ensure we maintain high standards of excellence. As an expert in repairs, you will examine and repair our facilities as needed, communicate with management and outside vendors, train other workers, and focus on customer service to demonstrate that we prioritize the needs of our students, faculty, and staff.

The Accountabilities :

  • Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and external customers, resolving issues promptly and maintaining a friendly, helpful demeanor.
  • Perform ongoing preventive maintenance on appliances such as air conditioners, heaters, refrigerators, stoves, ovens, and dishwashers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair or replace appliance parts, including commercial kitchen equipment like walk-in coolers, freezers, ice machines, dishwashers, and electric ranges.
  • Maintain inventory of appliance parts.
  • Build interior walls, fabricate cabinets, assemble furniture, and repair or replace doors, tiles, fixtures, and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Install safety restraints, patch and stretch carpets, replace windows and ceiling tiles, and perform caulking.
  • Replace light bulbs, fixtures, switches, plugs, test and replace smoke detectors and emergency lights, and secure electrical wiring.
  • Prepare walls for painting, patch holes, replace drywall, and refinish woodwork.
  • Assist in roof repairs, replace tiles, and perform caulking.
  • Repair or replace plumbing fixtures, unclog drains, and perform minor repairs on water heaters.
  • Perform light welding, vehicle maintenance, and utility work such as installing posts, patching streets, and repairing gates.
  • Promote inclusive relationships and uphold principles of the USC Code of Ethics.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, with the understanding that duties may change.

The Qualifiers :

  • Minimum Education : Specialized or technical training, or combined experience/education as a substitute.
  • Minimum Experience : 6 months.
  • Minimum Field of Expertise : Knowledge of thermodynamics, refrigeration cycles, electricity, testing/detection instruments, hand/power tools, wood finishing, wiring, painting, construction, and plumbing.
  • Valid CA driver’s license required; participation in DMV Pull Notice System; DMV record required upon employment.
