Job Title: General Maintenance Worker

Department: Facility Operations and Maintenance

Job Summary:

Performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and general knowledge in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Replaces electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors
  • Uses plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings
  • Repairs or replaces sinks, water coolers, and toilets
  • Paint structures and equipment
  • Repairs or replaces concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks
  • Replaces damaged paneling and floor tiles
  • Hangs doors and installs door locks and replaces broken windowpanes
  • Performs general maintenance on equipment and machinery

Required Skills/Abilities:

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years related experience required
  • Experience working in an outdoor or indoor building environment
  • Experience hanging doors, installing door locks, and replacing broken windowpanes preferred
  • Able to understand verbal or written direction from lead, supervisor, or other craftsmen

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged period of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands
  • Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to load noises
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds at times
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands as necessary
  • Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels
  • Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals

Special Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must be able to successfully pass as required a federal, state, or local government's background investigation
  • Apprenticeship for HVAC or Electrical
  • Must be to pass Department of Defense or HSPD-12 Zone D criminal background check
