Position: General Maintenance Worker - Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Area/McAllen/Brownsville/Harlingen/Corpus Christi, Texas

Position Summary:

This role involves performing general maintenance of buildings and equipment, requiring practical skills and knowledge in trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work, and key card locks. The work is based in the Rio Grande Valley, requiring travel to remote sites and independent task completion. Occasional after-hours emergency responses are required to mitigate issues and prevent damage.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Replace electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors.
  2. Replace filters, belts, etc.
  3. Patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings using plaster or compound.
  4. Repair or replace sinks, water coolers, and toilets.
  5. Paint structures and equipment.
  6. Repair or replace concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks.
  7. Replace damaged paneling and floor tiles.
  8. Hang doors and install door locks; assist with lockouts, battery changes, and rekeying cards.
  9. Replace broken windowpanes.
  10. Perform general maintenance on equipment and machinery.
  11. Maintain flexible scheduling, including on-call rotations, occasional overtime, and some weekend work.
  12. Perform other duties as required or requested.
Education and/or Experience:

Minimum requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, with at least three (3) years of general mechanical, electrical, carpentry, or maintenance experience within the past 4 years. Completion of technical/vocational training or military/industry experience is acceptable. A valid Texas Driver's License and ability to maintain DHS Facility access are required. Experience with preventative maintenance and work order repairs is preferred.

  • Knowledge of drywall, wood framing, concrete, and building materials.
  • Understanding of safety procedures.
  • Skill in operation of hand and power tools.

  • Good public and interpersonal relations skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
Communication Skills:

Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, managers, and staff; write reports; and effectively present information and respond to questions.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to interpret information to ensure procedures are followed.

Physical Demands:

Frequent standing, walking, sitting, using hands, reaching, and talking/hearing. Occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting over 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment:

Daily travel using a company vehicle across various sites in the RGV area. Exposure to noise, dirt, dust, chemicals, and weather conditions. Use of protective gear may be required.
