General Maintenance Worker III

Location: Petersburg, Virginia (Fort Gregg-Adams)

Type: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Full-time, Day Shift

Compensation: $37.37 - $37.37 /hour

Tessera is seeking a dedicated and reliable General Maintenance Worker III (GM-3) with a positive attitude. This individual performs skilled to highly skilled work in the general maintenance and upkeep of buildings, plumbing, electrical, structural, grounds and equipment. The GM-3 worker can act as a technical expert and mentor to other employees in those areas.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for a variety of tasks, to include painting, carpentry, siding repairs/replacement, glass replacement in doors and windows, minor plumbing, masonry, concrete repairs, and minor electrical work. Clean roof drains and gutters.
  • Responsible for replacing electrical receptacle and switches, fixtures, and bathroom exhaust fan motors.
  • Responsibilities include using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls or ceilings.
  • Responsible for repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers and toilets. Caulking plumbing kitchen fixtures
  • Responsible for repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, decks, stoops, and sidewalks.
  • Communicates and interacts directly with the customer and supervisors, informing the customer of unexpected or additional repairs and determining customer needs.
  • Responds to customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Ensures completed work meets quality control standards.
  • Make difficult diagnoses and suggest solutions and repairs to customer and supervisors.
  • Communicates with scheduler to update status of repairs and estimate completion dates.
  • Follows all safety procedures and policies.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in facilities maintenance.
  • Knowledge of painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work preferred.
  • Ability to learn a wide variety of building and grounds maintenance.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

Requirements:

  • Valid State Driver's license required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance company.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances as background checks will be conducted for this position.
