MHI Ship Repair & Services is a major marine repair and conversion contractor serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and Commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. Our shipyard is conveniently located in the Mid-Atlantic region at the port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Virginia.

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced Forklift Mechanic to join our Facilities Maintenance Department. This position focuses on the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT) and other facility mechanical equipment. Additionally, the Forklift Mechanic will assist with general building maintenance tasks as needed, supporting a variety of facility maintenance functions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Troubleshoot / repair all Powered Industrial Equipment (PIT) to minimize downtime.
• Perform preventive maintenance on forklifts and other PIT equipment.
• Follow work orders and prioritize tasks to meet productivity goals.
• Initiate and implement new procedures and designs to maintain equipment efficiency.
• Communicate effectively with team members, management, and other departments to ensure equipment issues are resolved quickly.
• Ensure all repairs and maintenance are performed with the highest level of workmanship and quality.
• Complete daily PIT checklists, identify defects, and report any issues to management.
• Operate PIT equipment in a safe and responsible manner following all company safety protocols.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist with general building maintenance tasks as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of industrial maintenance experience working on forklifts or related powered equipment (verifiable), OR 1-year of industrial maintenance experience plus formal training with certificates of completion in hydraulics, electricity, or electronics.
• Ability to assist in various building maintenance tasks.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Commitment to workplace safety and maintaining equipment reliability.
