Job description

The County Facilities Management Department is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of all County owned properties and select leased properties. The County of Delaware is seeking a dependable, safety-conscious, and motivated individual to support the maintenance, repair, and operation of County-owned facilities.

Working under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the General Maintenance Worker II assists experienced maintenance personnel while developing technical skills in commercial building maintenance and skilled trades. Responsibilities include routine maintenance of building systems, minor repairs, grounds maintenance, emergency response, and supporting facility operations to help ensure County buildings and properties remain safe, functional, and well-maintained. The employee’s primary work location will be the County of Delaware’s Government Center and Courthouse Complex in Media, PA, however, he/she may be dispatched to assist with repairs at other campuses throughout the County.

Building Maintenance

• Perform routine preventive maintenance on County buildings and equipment.
• Perform minor repairs involving carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, ceilings, doors, windows, and general building maintenance.
• Assist with basic plumbing repairs including faucets, toilets, sinks, valves, and drain systems.
• Assist with basic electrical maintenance including replacing lamps, ballasts, switches, receptacles, and light fixtures within the scope of training and qualifications.
• Assist with preventive maintenance and minor repairs of commercial mechanical systems including HVAC equipment, boilers, chillers, pumps, exhaust systems, and building automation controls.
• Replace ceiling tiles, weather stripping, door hardware, locks, and other building components.
• Repair or assemble office furniture and equipment.
• Assist with office relocations, reconfigurations, and event setups.

Preventative Maintenance

• Follow established preventive maintenance schedules and procedures.
• Conduct routine inspections of County facilities to identify maintenance concerns.
• Report equipment deficiencies and major repair needs to the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Assist in maintaining accurate maintenance records and work orders.

Grounds Maintenance

• Operate commercial landscaping equipment including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and related equipment.
• Perform mowing, edging, weed trimming, leaf removal, and general grounds maintenance.
• Assist with seasonal landscaping projects.
• Remove litter and debris from County properties.

Snow and Ice Removal

• Assist with the County’s snow removal operation, including shoveling and salting walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps, as appropriate.
• Operate snow removal equipment when authorized.

Equipment and Safety

• Safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and maintenance equipment.
• Operate County-owned vehicles, including pickup trucks, utility vehicles, and other assigned equipment.
• Inspect, clean, maintain, and properly store tools and equipment.
• Follow all OSHA regulations, County safety policies, and departmental procedures.
• Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing assigned duties.
• Report unsafe conditions, accidents, and property damage immediately.

Emergency Response

• Respond to emergency maintenance requests during and after normal business hours.
• Participate in the Facilities Department on-call rotation as assigned.
• Assist during severe weather events and other County emergencies.
• Support disaster recovery and emergency building operations.
• Occasionally assists building maintenance mechanics with non-skilled tasks.
• Performs other reasonably related duties in equal or lower classifications as assigned by supervisory personnel.
• Performs work as directed by supervisors in accordance with the Labor Agreement between the County of Delaware and County of Delaware Public Employees’ Association Local 3107 and of AFSCME, District Council 88. Article 1, Section 1
• Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as assigned.

Qualifications / Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent. required. Technical school, vocational training, or trade certification preferred.
• Minimum one (1) year of building maintenance or construction experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of commercial building maintenance practices.
• Proficiency in written and verbal communications.
• Experience using hand and power tools safely.
• Valid Pennsylvania driver's license with an acceptable driving record throughout employment.
• Ability to travel throughout the County and municipalities and navigate buildings and construction sites as required.
• Ability to successfully pass required background investigations.

Computer Skills
