Responsibilities

  • Assist tradesmen in maintaining electrical, HVAC, plumbing and related fixtures.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks like moving furniture, signage, fences, curbs and pavements.
  • Help troubleshoot minor electrical issues under supervision and perform some repairs.
  • Assist with doors, locks, flooring, walls and painting; basic drywall finishing.
  • Identify roof leaks, perform basic carpentry, and manage snow removal and landscaping tasks.

Job description

Job Overview

General maintenance work at the semi‑skilled level. An employee in this class assists tradesmen in maintaining electric, HVAC, plumbing and associated fixtures and equipment. The job also includes seasonal maintenance of lawns and playgrounds. Employees may perform minor repairs or simple tasks independently and may be assigned independent tasks across all categories of maintenance work such as masonry, carpentry, roofing, electrical, or plumbing. The employee follows strict procedures in the performance of assigned duties. Work is performed inside and outside of school buildings.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Performs routine maintenance tasks such as moving furniture and instructional materials, installing and repairing signs and fences, and repairing curbs and pavements.
  • Assists technicians in maintaining fans, motors, air compressors, and plumbing equipment.
  • Assists tradesmen in troubleshooting minor electrical problems in fans, light fixtures, switches and receptacles; replaces parts and components as necessary. May perform some repairs independently.
  • Assists with repairs to doors, door locks, carpets, panic bars; replaces floor tiles; patches holes in walls and plaster; completes drywall finishing, painting and other corrosion protection work.
  • Assists in identifying roof leaks and making roof repairs, performs basic carpentry.
  • Plows snow in winter and clears walkways, operates truck‑mounted salt/sand spreaders.
  • Prunes shrubs and trees, cuts grass, and performs other related landscape functions, including transporting and maintaining power equipment for semi‑annual changeover.
Qualifications
  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • General maintenance work experience.
  • Current valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to operate mobile information technology devices to receive and close out work assignments.
  • Ability to properly operate the tools, equipment, and materials required for the specific tasks assigned.

The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
