Job summary

Chugach Government Solutions in San Diego, CA is seeking an HVAC General Maintenance Worker to perform preventative maintenance, repairs and daily upkeep of HVAC equipment and associated facilities. You will work with HVAC technicians, read plans, and ensure safe operations in a government contracting environment.

The role requires three years of trades experience, OSHA 30, a valid driver's license, and the ability to pass a background check.

Qualifications

• Three years’ experience in trades maintenance operations.
• OSHA 30-Hour Training or ability to complete within 120 calendar days of hire.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, schematics, specifications, manuals, codes, and regulations.
• Valid class C driver’s license with clean driving record and ability to provide record.

Responsibilities

• Perform Preventative Maintenance on MCAS BSSC equipment.
• Train with HVAC Technicians to diagnose and repair HVAC units.
• Maintain furnishings, appliances, equipment, and HVAC facilities and inventories.
• Coordinate disposal of government assets that are in excess or to be replaced.
• Work from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal and written instructions.
• Follow established safety procedures and use protective equipment.
• Replace belts, filters, and related components on HVAC units.
• Patch minor holes in walls/ceilings with plaster or compound.
• Replace receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors.
• Paint facilities and repair/build surfaces as needed.
• Perform general maintenance on equipment, machinery, and vehicles.
• Maintain proper housekeeping practices.

Job Overview

The HVAC General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair HVAC equipment located in the interior and exterior of buildings, low voltage electrical systems, and components associated with Miramar HVAC BSSC facilities and equipment. Additionally, maintain all HVAC equipment along with warehouse facilities and inventories. Keeps supervisor informed of unique situations and problems encountered.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:

• Assists HVAC Supervisor on assigned tasks to perform Preventative Maintenance on MCAS BSSC equipment.
• Trains directly with HVAC Technicians to learn how to diagnose and repair HVAC units and assets in contract inventory.
• Manage and maintain all furnishings, appliances and equipment, and HVAC facilities and inventories.
• Coordinate disposal of government assets that are in excess or to be replaced.
• Works from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal and written instructions.
• Follows established safety procedures and utilizes safety protective equipment and clothing that pertain to trades and skills.
• Replace HVAC unit motor belts, exhaust fan belts, and various filters.
• Use plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings.
• Replace electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors.
• Paint facilities, structures and equipment as identified.
• Replace damaged paneling and floor tiles.
• Perform general maintenance on equipment, machinery, and vehicles.
• Ensures proper housekeeping practices are observed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Respond to emergency site maintenance as required.
• Inspect and diagnose problems to determine corrective repairs.
• Perform on call and preventive maintenance duties as necessary.
• Ensures proper housekeeping practices are strictly observed.
• Assist in any trade when necessary to accomplish maintenance activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Rate of Pay: $24.83/hr + $5.09/hr H&W cash-out = $29.92/hr

Job Requirements

Mandatory:

• Three years’ experience in the trades industry service and maintenance operations.
• OSHA 30-Hour Training for General Industry (or ability to complete within 120-calendar days of hire).
• Must be able to read and interpret plans, schematics specifications, operating and maintenance manuals, codes, and regulations.
• General knowledge of hand and power tools.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Valid class C state driver’s license with suitable driving record (must provide current driving record).
• Must be able to don required personal protective equipment.
• Ability to pass and maintain cleared background check.
• US Citizen or ability to legally work in the US.

Preferred:

• Technical, vocational or trade school graduate or equivalent.
• Experience working on military installations.

Working Conditions:

• Work is performed mostly indoors. Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.
• Work hours are subject to change, with weekend work or overtime as needed.
• Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, dust, odors, and elevated noise levels.
• Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard, and soft-carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces, including use of ladders and access passages to rooftops and elevated HVAC units.
• Must be able to work under, in or around buildings, structures, or fixtures, such as ducting systems, attics or crawl spaces.

Physical Requirements:

While performing duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and/or walk for long periods at a time, sit, use of hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, climb ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision.
