Job description

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: Perform corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs for the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) and Air and Marine Operations (AMO) facilities and real property. The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing all types of building maintenance, construction, and repair tasks that require knowledge and application of a variety of trade practices, including electrical, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, ironwork, painting, HVAC, and fire protection.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform maintenance and repairs on facilities, grounds, and structures, including electrical work, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, ironwork, painting, concrete work, HVAC, fire protection, earthwork, irrigation, and related duties.
  2. Troubleshoot to identify underlying issues and determine the most effective repair methods.
  3. Conduct visual inspections and operational tests for air conditioning/refrigeration, electrical systems, plumbing, and ventilation.
  4. Work independently to support maintenance activities, maintaining facilities and related structures.
  5. Interpret blueprints, manuals, and design standards to ensure proper maintenance and repairs.
  6. Provide effective customer service by communicating with project managers and customers to ensure satisfaction.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 3 years of experience in general maintenance.
  • Knowledge of work practices in commercial facilities.
  • Skills in two or more trades such as HVAC, plumbing, or electrical.
  • Ability to understand technical manuals, drawings, and diagrams.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role involves working in shop settings, various buildings, and outdoors, often in extreme weather conditions. Physical stamina is required to perform tasks such as bending, stooping, sitting, walking, standing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
