Job summary

Ricecisd is seeking a General Maintenance Worker to perform general maintenance and repair of district facilities, grounds, and mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems. You will assist skilled workers, inspect facilities, and keep grounds neat while supporting events and daily operations.

The role requires one year of maintenance experience, the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, and the capability to operate hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities, including woodwork, electrical and plumbing components, and related systems.
• Inspect building interiors, exteriors, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs.
• Report major repairs needed to supervisor.
• Complete repairs on work orders as directed.
• Assist with mowing and detailing of district grounds.
• Relocate furnishings as needed and move/install school furniture.
• Install and repair doors, windows, and hardware; install ceilings and flooring materials.
• Keep buildings and grounds neat and clean; report major repair needs.
• Assist in setting up facilities for special events.
• Care for trees, shrubs, and flowers; water and fertilize; mulch and weed control.
• Assist with athletic field prep and chalking.
• Water grounds and apply fertilizer.
• Collect and dispose of leaves and debris.
• Operate light trucks to transport furniture and equipment.
• Follow safety procedures; perform preventive maintenance and report unsafe conditions.

Job Description

Job Title: General Maintenance Worker

Reports to: Asst.Director of Maintenance/ Principal

Dept./School: Maintenance

Primary Purpose:

Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout district. Assist with maintenance of grounds.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Maintenance and Repair

1. Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities, including repairing woodwork; replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors; painting, repairing, and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass.

2. Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs.

3. Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment.

4. Complete repairs as requested on work orders or by maintenance foreman.

5. Assist with mowing and detailing of district grounds.

6. Assist with relocation of furnishings, such as desks, tables, chairs, file cabinets, etc.

7. Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.

8. Hang pictures, mirrors, blackboards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and other items as required.

9. Install door and window assemblies and hardware, including window glass and screens.

10. Install ceiling and flooring materials.

11. Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas, neat and clean.

12. Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to principal.

13. Assist in setting up facilities for special events.

14. Care for trees, shrubs, and flowers by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, caring for beds, and controlling weeds.

15. Assist with the preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking fields.

16. Water grounds and apply fertilizer.

17. Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from district facilities.

Driving

18. Operate light truck to transport furniture and equipment throughout district.

Safety

19. Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures.

20. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.

21. Correct unsafe conditions in the area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.

22. Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.

Heavy equipment, including trencher, and grader blade; tractor and mower; riding and power mower; gas-powered weed trimmer; blower; edger; garden and hand tools
