Job description

Cyclic General Maintenance Worker - U.S. Army Fort Jackson
Salary

$22.49/hr plus $5.09 fringe benefits used toward insurance and 401k.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work involves a variety of duties including replacing broken hardware in barracks rooms, working on signage, replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors, using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets.
  • Repair or replace defective equipment parts and reassemble equipment.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
  • Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment.
  • Order parts, supplies, and equipment from catalogs and suppliers, or obtain them from storerooms.
  • Perform general cleaning of buildings or properties.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
  • Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices or control instruments using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, or straightedges.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in both rough and finished carpentry in commercial/industrial settings, including applicable building and safety code requirements and practices followed in maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of building architectural/structural elements—including alterations and repairs.
  • Adaptable and flexible in work situations.
  • Establish priorities to ensure completion of tasks in a timely manner.
  • Practice workplace safety in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies—including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years related experience and/or formal vocational/technical training in a variety of building and/or utility trades.
  • Duty phone.
  • Valid driver’s license compliant with REAL ID Act or willingness to obtain one.
  • Pass a pre‑employment drug screening and background check.
  • Regular, dependable attendance.
  • U.S. citizenship to obtain and maintain access to military installations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Formal apprenticeship.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping.
  • Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces.
  • Lifting and adjusting heavy objects, contact with sharp, hot and/or very cold supplies and equipment.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors in various temperatures (some extreme) and weather conditions.
