Job description

Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment and systems supporting the hospital, medical buildings, and other campus buildings. Responds to routine service requests. Functions as maintenance shift coverage evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

  1. Monitors, inspects, maintains, troubleshoots, resets, and repairs equipment, machinery, and systems supporting the hospital, medical buildings, and other campus buildings. These systems include, but are not limited to, machine rooms, HVAC systems, fire alarm systems, nitrogen, nitrous oxide, oxygen, medical vacuum systems, locks and hardware, nurse call system, and tube system.
  2. Performs plumbing work, including unplugging clogged drains, replacing faucet washers, and toilet repairs.
  3. Performs electrical work, such as changing fuses, resetting circuit breakers, and replacing light bulbs. (All other electrical work must be performed by licensed electricians.)
  4. Repairs various hospital equipment and furniture.
  5. Replaces ceiling and floor tiles and makes minor carpet repairs as necessary.
  6. Documents all work requests and work performed on shift logs.
  7. Performs assigned shift readings and processes appropriate documentation.
  8. Responds to emergency codes and building system alarms.
  9. Responds to service requests dispatched via work order system, Voalte, and/or direct page.
  10. Acknowledges and silences fire alarm system, HVAC equipment, and generator equipment following failures.
  11. Provides assistance to all trades as required.
  12. If designated to sign waste manifests, attends Hazardous Waste Management (RCRA) and DOT training as required by law. Completes all annual hospital online training through the Healthcare Learning Center (HLC).
  13. Submits log sheets and/or work orders each shift as backup for timesheets.

Job Knowledge and Skills: Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and appropriate confrontation of issues.

Education: High school or trade school graduate.

Experience: 1-3 years' experience in hospital maintenance.

Shift Details: 1st Shift, Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
