Job description

Are you an experienced professional looking for new opportunities to further your career? Patriots Point is seeking a hardworking and dependable candidate to apply! This position offers great benefits with the state, including 15 days of annual and sick leave per year, depending on applicable state service.

The purpose of the General Maintenance Technician - Painter is to perform as a team member responsible for painting and preservation of ships, buildings, and piers owned by Patriots Point Development Authority. In this position, you will:

  1. Perform semi-skilled procedures, including preparing surfaces for painting and using equipment such as scrapers, chipping hammers, sanders, wire brushes, scalers, deck crawlers, and needle guns.
  2. Safely and properly use paintbrush techniques, rollers, and spray equipment in applying primers and finish coats. Perform preservation work and maintenance on high, vertical surfaces, and other remote areas using appropriate scaffolding when required. Safely dispose of waste products generated during painting operations in accordance with PPDA policies and procedures.
  3. Adhere to and enforce safety and environmental regulations required by the Agency.
  4. Work after normal hours, on weekends, holidays, emergencies, and/or special events. Perform other duties as assigned to support the agency's mission.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. A valid SC driver's license.
  2. Previous trade experience.

Additional Requirements:

  1. Work evenings, weekends, and overtime hours as needed.
  2. Frequent stooping, bending, and lifting of 30 lbs.
  3. Report to work during emergencies.
  4. Engage in rigorous physical activity, including climbing ladders and long-distance walking.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge of painting techniques and equipment.
  2. Ability to serve as a crew leader, assign tasks, and allocate resources.
  3. Knowledge of safety practices and regulations.
  4. Familiarity with tools, materials, and supplies used by painters.
  5. Skill in using trade tools and equipment.
  6. Ability to make repairs and adjustments to equipment.
  7. Use judgment and initiative to complete routine work independently.
