Overview
Amentum is seeking a General Maintenance Technician II to join our operations & maintenance team at East Peoria, IL. Typical work schedule will vary based on business demand. Typical working hours are 2:30 - 11:00 pm. This position provides an intermediate level of expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and performing emergency and preventive maintenance and repairs on building equipment, fixtures and systems in a manufacturing environment including clean rooms. Working under minimal supervision as part of a self-directed work team, this multi-craft role may perform machine repairs and general non-licensed maintenance work and support other licensed trades as directed. Requires good working knowledge of equipment pertaining to maintenance and operations for the assigned area, and the ability to work within machine tolerances. General maintenance may include minor duties in carpentry, painting, and sheet metal.
The General Maintenance Technician must identify and correct safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. General maintenance of equipment will also be required.
Responsibilities
- Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures and wearing PPE as required.
- Operates, maintains, and repairs all facility and production equipment in compliance with company regulations and standards.
- Analyzes equipment failures, inspects, replaces, alters, and maintains building and production services and related equipment in good repair.
- Performs planned maintenance on building equipment and related services for the specific area, while being responsive to customer needs.
- Performs troubleshooting on mechanical equipment such as HVAC, pumps, agitators, hydraulic systems, RO/DI purified water systems, compressed air and other gas distribution systems to determine problems and perform repairs to minimize downtime.
- Performs preventative maintenance inspections and develops/implements planned maintenance procedures.
- Performs job estimates, maintains spare parts inventory, and communicates usage to stock personnel.
- Assists in installing and inspecting new equipment and servicing installations.
- Provides support to coworkers, contractors, vendors, project managers, building managers, and engineers to support project and renovation work.
- Complies with governmental, company, and industrial regulations, codes, standards, health and safety practices, and permit systems.
- Performs preventive maintenance as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Responds to and provides service and feedback to customers on work orders while ensuring compliance with codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Recommends measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
- Operates measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to support energy efficiency solutions.
- Operates a variety of tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
- Maintains a flexible schedule to meet customer needs and acknowledges changing day-to-day activities.
- Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
- Two years of maintenance experience in Industrial HVAC/Industrial Mechanical Machine Repair, Automotive Repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements
- Repetitive wrist movement for some tasks.
- Ability to walk extensively through facilities.
- Ability to climb extension ladders, roof ladders, stepladders, and stairs.
- Flexibility to bend/stoop, squat, kneel, reach/stretch, and move in a 90-degree range.
- Ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.
- Ability to read and understand information contained in documents or on a computer screen.
- Ability to use office equipment and operate a computer to access data, send/receive messages and prepare documents.
- Ability to attend meetings at the site and potentially travel to other locations, with some air travel to distant locations.
- Ability to communicate effectively by phone and in person or in groups.
- Fluency in using computer software including Microsoft products.
- Ability to move light to medium weight materials as needed.
- Professional and friendly interaction with clients, even under stress.
Special Requirements
- Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other PPE as needed.
- Cope with job-related stress to maintain performance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or trade school certification in Industrial Mechanical, HVAC, or related field.
- Experience working safely with 480-volt 3-phase electrical systems.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial facility mechanical equipment, including vacuum and RO/DI water systems.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing large commercial or industrial HVAC/R equipment.
- Experience maintaining basic plumbing needs.
- Working knowledge of hand and power tools, air measuring instruments, refrigeration equipment, electrical meters, megger, and shop equipment.
- Experience working in a CMMS environment.
- Willingness to work overtime and on holidays/weekends as needed; schedules may change based on business needs.
Compensation and Benefits
$23.00 per hour. The compensation range is a good-faith estimate at the time of posting and may vary based on job responsibilities, education, experience, and applicable laws.
