Job Description: General Maintenance Technician I

Organization: Art and Wellness Enterprises (AWE) supports non-profits founded by Alice Walton, including the Alice L. Walton Foundation, Alice L. Walton School of Medicine, Art Bridges Foundation, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the Momentary, and Heartland Whole Health Institute.

Position: General Maintenance Technician I

Classification: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Manager of General Maintenance

Location: Bentonville, Arkansas (On-site)

About The Position

The General Maintenance Technician I supports daily maintenance and upkeep of facilities across the campus. Responsibilities include performing repairs, installations, inspections, and preventative maintenance to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment. The role involves working with the Facilities team, responding to maintenance requests, troubleshooting, and assisting with inspections. Tasks include work on building systems, furniture, water features, tools, and equipment, indoors and outdoors. The technician should have strong mechanical skills, be adaptable, and work well independently and collaboratively. Participation in an on-call rotation is required to respond to urgent situations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform daily maintenance tasks, repairs, fabrication, and installations.
  • Maintain windows and specialized equipment.
  • Support scheduled maintenance, projects, and installation tasks.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests.
  • Troubleshoot and repair building systems and components.
  • Assist with project planning and cleanup.
  • Prepare for inspections, ensuring standards are met.
  • Maintain campus ponds and water features.
  • Escort external contractors and ensure compliance.
  • Perform general maintenance, including carpentry, painting, and repairs.
  • Participate in cross-training and support various functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of building systems and measurements.
  • Proficient with hand and power tools.
  • Ability to operate equipment like forklifts and lifts.
  • Willingness to learn specialized software.
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel).
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Team-oriented, adaptable, and organized.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 75 pounds and working in various environments.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

The role involves physical activity, operating tools and equipment, working at heights, and exposure to outdoor conditions. PPE must be worn as per safety protocols. Flexibility for working hours, including weekends and evenings, is necessary.
