Job summary

Overview

Position: Temporary General Maintenance Tech

Location: Mobile, AL

Note: The temporary assignment is estimated to be for 30 days, may end sooner or be extended. The position does not include benefits.

What you need to know

Under general supervision, the General Maintenance Tech II will perform repairs and maintenance in plant or office facilities, or on machines and equipment. The role involves work in one or more maintenance trades, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, machine and equipment repair, and electrical. Tasks include conducting routine, periodic, or special inspections to prevent breakdowns, using hand and power tools to test, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair equipment. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to volunteers. All duties performed in compliance with standard operating procedures and applicable regulations.

  • Maintain and repair facilities and properties, including patching holes, repairing concrete floors, painting, and addressing electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and structural issues. Document installations and repairs as required by regulatory agencies. Install, operate and service boilers, chillers, motors, fans, pumps and related equipment.
  • Move and store furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Estimate time and material costs for projects; requisition supplies and equipment.
  • Plant and tend flowerbeds; prune shrubs, water lawns, and manage landscaping tasks; remove leaves and snow as appropriate; apply de-icing chemicals on company roads and walkways.
  • Drive vehicle to other locations as required.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
What you need to succeed
  • Education: High School or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Related experience includes painting, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, masonry and electrical work.
  • Skills & Abilities: Valid driver’s license with clean DMV record; basic computer skills; strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication; ability to work on a team; on-call duties may apply. Experience in painting, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work is required.
  • Travel: Will require driving; a current, valid driver’s license with good driving record is required.

* Combination of candidate's education and general experience may satisfy requirements if the total years meet the described minimums. Management experience cannot be substituted.

Physical requirements

Regularly use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. Regularly lift and/or move objects 10-50 lbs; may lift more than 100 lbs with assistance or equipment. Move carts up to 250 pounds on flat surfaces or ramps. Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; climb or balance; use various hand and power tools; work with chemicals and solvents. Position may require climbing ladders.
