Job summary

Del Valle Independent School District Department of Maintenance & Facilties is seeking a General Maintenance Technician to perform routine building and systems repairs across the district. Starting date is immediate and candidate must meet state requirements.

The role requires experience with multiple trades, ability to lift 50 pounds, valid Texas driver's license, and completion of fingerprint background checks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (Recognized by the Texas Education Agency or regional accrediting agency).
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Safe driving record verified by Texas Department of Public Safety (meets and maintains liability coverage eligibility).
  • Shall be subject to testing for use of alcohol or controlled substance that violate law or federal regulations.
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee paid by employee.
  • One year of experience in commercial and public facilities.
  • Experience working with various trades, equipment, and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds.
  • Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment.
  • Complete repairs as requested on work orders or by maintenance supervisors.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs of district facilities, including repairing woodwork, electrical switches, fixtures, motors, painting, plumbing fixtures and drainage systems, roofing, glazing, and related upgrades.
  • Installation tasks including doors, windows, hardware, cabinetry, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Cleaning activities including window cleaning and pressure washing of exterior buildings.
  • Parking lot striping and signage installation; assist with mowing and district grounds detailing.
  • Relocate, move and install furniture and playground equipment; hang pictures, whiteboards, and other items.
  • Maintain open communication with DVISD staff and use DVISD email to communicate with stakeholders.

Job Description
Primary Purpose

Perform general maintenance and repair services of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout the district. Assist with maintenance of grounds.

Minimum Qualifications
Education/Certification
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (Recognized by the Texas Education Agency or regional accrediting agency)

Organization Management
  • Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds.
  • Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment.
  • Complete repairs as requested on work orders or by maintenance supervisors.
Organization Improvement
  • Perform maintenance and repairs of district facilities, including but not limited to, repairing woodwork, replacing electrical switches, fixtures and motors, painting, repairing, and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems, roof repairs, replace broken glass, and other facility improvements.
  • Installation, including but not limited to, door and window assemblies and hardware, including window glass and screens, cabinetry, ceiling and floor materials.
  • Cleaning activity, including but not limited to, window cleaning and pressure washing of exterior buildings.
  • Parking lot striping and parking lot signage installation.
  • Assist with mowing and detailing of district grounds.
  • Assist with relocation of furnishing, such as desks, tables, chairs, file cabinets, etc.
  • Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment, as needed.
  • Hang pictures, mirrors, whiteboards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and other items.
Communication and Community Relations
  • Establish and maintain open communication with DVISD staff.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Use of DVISD electronic communications (e-mail) to communicate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Carry out customer service expectations set by the Department of Maintenance and the district.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Attend training and orientation to improve job skills .
  • Attend meetings and professional development as required.
Qualities of a General Maintenance Technician
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
  • Respond to emergency calls when requested.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Complete assigned work in a timely manner.
  • Commitment to working well with others and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, supervisors, school personnel, and the public.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • Shall comply with District policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Shall comply with the standards of conduct as set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, or standards.
